Topic: My Playlists are not listed

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

New version..Great!, but as usually problems and misunderstandings.

I store my playlists (m3u) in a folder E:\Playlists
When i browse with VDJ they do not appear on the middle browser section. So i had to copy and move them to a specific Folder c:\UserName\MyDocuments\VirtualDJ\Playlists in order to find them in the browser tree. Is there a way to browse them like ver 4.x?
Even if i accept this misfunction, there is another problem. I cannot see the content of a playlist on the right section of the browser (playlist section). I see the content in the middle when i select a playlist from the left section, but not to the right. So i can not actually autoplay my playlist.

I hope i'm wrong. If not big mistake from the Team.

thanks apopsis :)

I have allready read the manual of 5.0 and i think i understand the new way the Database is fixed. But i think you don't understand me.

Anyway just answer this simple question ...

Are these two following paths the only ones to store my playlists?
C \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\VirtualDJ\Playlists
C \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\VirtualDJ\Tracklisting

why can't i store my playlists with the rest of my music (Drive E:)?

Try yourselfs too, to store (copy, paste) a playlist to different path. See what happens, they don't show !

I understand that the new browser with id3tags etc has a difficulty to browse songs among with playlists, but at least we could be able to change the Directory of Playlists, and that is my wish for future versions.

You do something wrong.
I tried a playlist in another directory and it's ok.
If you don't want the playlist icon, disable it from the browser.
Then create a favorite folder and store your playlists there.
Read the manual for the autoload playlist option (smart etc)
And now playlists created manually while the history/tracklisting is automated.

I can confirm that I'm having the same issue. Folders that contain .m3u (that have no additional subfolder within them) will NOT display the .m3u playlists. Only shows music files. Issue only appears in 5.0. Workaround to have .m3u file display is to create a subfolder within the same directory that has your .m3u file(s). Subfolder can be empty.

I'm having the Same Problem.

How can we make the .M3u playlists appear in the left bar

When you updated to V5 the playlists were copied to the TrackListing folder. Go to : MyDocuments\\VirtualDJ\\Tracklisting and cut and move them to the MyDocuments\\VirtualDJ\\Playlist folder -- there you can do everything like you did before.

Tracklisting is specific for your end-of-session playlist that Virtual DJ creates for you -- 2008-08-30.m3u
Playlist is the default location of where the playlists are saved that you manually create in the Playlist panel -- Early Dinner.m3u

So if you want to organize your old playlist that way keep the date filenamed files in the Tracklisting folder.

** Tracklisting folder does not support subfoldering.

Nope, Still doesn't show my M3u playlists

Are they stored in C:\\MyDocuments\\VirtualDJ\\Playlists ?
Or are you putting playlist ( .m3u ) files in some other location?

in another Folder on my external hard drive (m:\) i use between my desktop at home and laptop when i DJ

Do you have a favorite setup for that folder ?

After digging around and never getting a direct answer to my question as well, I found that the old m3u files that VDJ creates based on what you have played for the evening are listed under "History" and not under Playlist as in the past. Make sure under Config and Browser, you have History checked and it will then show all of your past sets that VDJ has logged.

I'm guessing that the Playlist is now for lists that are manually created such as Dinner, Beach Music, Happy Hour, etc...

Thanks again for not directly answering this question others have posted as well as me and then just closing the thread because it was felt that this had been answered. Seems just about everything that can use a very simple and basic explanation does not get it here and the threads are just closed and blown off. Great product, but when this is the only support there is to be had...we need actual answers!

I would still like an answer to the question, "Is the old database file (typically C:\Program Files\VirtualDJ\VirtualDJ Database (Owner)) still an active file in V5 or not? It used to be so bad of a problem with the database corrupt issue, I always backed it up and would like to know if I still need to do this or not? A direct, precise and concise answer would be nice this time. Thanks!

This had been answered many times in many threads, to include the second post of this thread as well as the VirtualDJ v5 Updates Guide and the VirtualDJ V5 User Guide - found in the My Documents->VirtualDJ folder when you installed Revision 2

Again answered in the User Guides and this thread.

Please supply the thread you are referring to and I will tell you why it was closed. And the answers are direct answers.

NO

That is your call on backing it up and the answer to your next question - "What are the files I need to back-up?" - can be found in the guides as well.

Hope this satisfies your condition of 'concise'.

Has anyone figured out how to make M3U Playlist that We Created appear in the Database like it did with All the Previous versions before VDJ5?

Until they fix this little bug, try to create another folder inside the folder of your playlists. For example i used to have my playlists in E:|Playlists and i could not see them. Then i putted them in E:|Playlists|2007 and it's ok.
