Topic: Audio quality issues in 4.2 (urgent)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi,

I upgraded to 4.2 last week, and now I'm noticing sound quality has gotten very poor:

-audio is now overdriven (you can hear distortion on heavy bass)
-crackles (sounds like record crackle and pop)

I was not having this problem on 4.1. My rig:

Dell 8600 2ghz laptop
1 gig ram
Echo DJ asio card

Is there a way I can revert to 4.1? I have a gig tonight!!!!!!!!!

Thank you,

Josh

Thanks, but I don't think that's it.

I did a side-by-side test playing an mp3 out of VDJ on lowest and highest settings, and the same mp3 out of windows media player. VDJ is adding audio artifacts such as distortion, subtle clicks, and a high pitched digital "squeak", which is low in volume, but noticiable in headphones.

I found my old installer for 4.1...I'm going to see if there is a difference now...standby.

ok...reverted to 4.1...same problem.

I'll ride the levels tonight for the gig I guess...bummer.

The main problem (aside from the lackluster quality, which will be fine for a mono rock club) is that when i bring in a track, its playing back too loud, and is distorting slightly. (I'm monitoring directly out of my soundcard into phones to prove this.) The levels on the meter are fine, but distortion is happening before the VU meter reaches the peak. The dev team might want to look into this.

I have my setting set to "import @ 0 DB"...I might just switch this off tonight.
