Topic: Real Vinyl and TCV Mixing through VDJ? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Hi, i\'ve been playing with the the trial VDJ for a while now and i love it! - think its time to get serious and get some hardware for christmas but trying to decide what rig to go for. I\'d love to be able mix vinyl and mp3\'s (ideally together), is this possible with the pro VDJ? I read this at the following link:

http://fr.audiofanzine.com:80/apprendre/faq_tips/index,idmarque,24045,mao,hercules.html

\"To mix in real time with an analog vinyl turntable, you will need the Pro version of Virtual DJ (not bundled with the DJ Console) to synchronize DJ Console file playback with the Line input (via a phono preamp): the vinyl turntable will not be recorded on the DJ Console, which will simply analyze its BPM to synchronize DJ Console virtual mixing with the analog turntable.\"

And at the bottom of this page:

http://www.virtualdj.com/products/timecode/

it says you can use a \"bypass mode\" to mix real vinyls, does this go through VDJ so u can see the beat and use effects over it? If you can do it how does it work? Reading all this it sounds possible but I don\'t know how it would be set up.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I\'m hoping to set my rig up to use real vinyl and timecode vinyl.

you would change the setting to enable you to do this in the soundconfig

:)

that way u could mix vinyl and use the timecode

but at the same time use mp3

vdj is great for this :)

Ok, i'm looking at going for a config like the one here : ttp://www.virtualdj.com/blog/Dams/blog738.html

My setup would be a ESI U46DJ from :
http://www.makingwavesaudio.com/prodidividual.asp?Manufacturer=ESI
£80

Mixer i'm looking at a Numark DMX 06. Does this have a midi interface to control VDJ?
Numark DXM 06 Mixer
£179

Decks not decided on, but doesn't really matter as long as their direct drive.

All this with a pro version of VDJ of course! .... and some Y-Splitters and timecode vinyl.... then i can mix mp3s and my regular vinyl on the same setup...correct?

Just want to check before I go blowing all my money! If anyone has any other hardware recommendations then please let me know.

Thanks!

yes that config would be good:)

u46dj is highly recomended

yes it would be all midimixers are

but you would have to map it your self

as its not a natively supported one

such as mk2

nuo4

so u might want the nuo4 more

yes thats right :)

...and how do you connect the DMX 06 up to the PC to get the midi control? I can't seem to see any connectors on the mixer that would do it?

midi mixers usualy have a usb port

although some have a midi output which u then need a usb to midi adaptor

Oh right, doesn't look like the DMX 06 has this then :(

Any suggestions for a real mixer that does? (other than a Mk2)

i'm just wondering if you use the Split-Cable setup.

Would that change the Sound from VDJ from being Stereo to Mono?

if you use that for headphone output yes

if you use it for timecode input to turn dual phono to single mini jack no

I still don't get how this "bypass" mode works, can some one explain? I can't even see any settings in VJD to enable/disable it!
