Here's The Real Problem!!

I have a 1/8" stereo mini jack to left and right mono
female mini outs. The left one goes to the speaker system and works well, while the right one is hooked
up to the headphone.
Now here comes the real issue:
1) When listening(w/headphones) to songs from the playlist when the right deck is playing on the speakers, everything is fine. e.g., right deck playing for the dance floor and me listening on phones to something else.
2) But.....When listening(w/headphones) to songs from the playlist when the left deck is playing, I ALSO hear the music coming from the deck along with the playlist song I am listening to.
Is this normal???????? It's as if the left deck is setup to produce sound to the headphones and to the external speakers.
3) I thought the right channel was for headphones only(regardless of which deck is currently playing), and left channel for speakers ONLY!!
My config is set up to the second "stereo splitter" box in the menu!
