It seems that I can't drag and drop my zip files into Virtual DJ like I can other types of files. What's going on? I read other posts where people had problems with some of their zips, but in my case, NONE of them will even drop into the playlist or anything.
I'm not really sure what I could be doing wrong here... is there a special option I have to turn on? Virtual DJ *does* support zip files, right?

"From memory" you need to go into setup, and then to "EXTENTIONS" and add one for .ZIP that uses tha same codec as .cdg files.
BUT
Keep in mind the reason the VDJ does not come set this way is so if you click "SHOW ALL" in the record browser, VDJ could be busy for quite a while taking a peek in evey .ZIP file in the directory!

Thats exactly what you need to do ;)
Go to the EXTENTION tab, and assosiate the ZIP extention with the VDJ karaoke/zip decoder

maybe the zip extension should be associated be defualt in the next upgrade, instead of having to add it

Oh... that seems odd to me that it doesn't come that way by default, but at least it sounds easy to do.
Cool. Up until now I have been using Winamp for my karaoke files, which doesn't have the ability to use zip files. Also, I meticulously tag all my karaoke files with ID3v2 tags, and I use them to search in winamp.
By the way, what is the most effective program to take a directory tree full of Karaoke albums and pair them into zip files? I used to have a proggie called Saxman's Tools from Sax & Dotty's, but they were rather rude when I made a simple and obvious product request (allow the music to play song to song without clicking "play" for each song), so I decided I didn't need to waste my time on them and their software.
As an aside, I wrote a program in Perl that can use my ID3v2 tags to generate a karaoke book, and it will intelligently avoid putting duplicate entries in the book. One of these days I want to convert it to a VBA program in Excel that will be more automated :P

Yeah, okay. Easy enough. It must be a lot easier to use the Zips, and as soon as I can resolve some issues with Virtual DJ and karaoke, I'll zip up my files and use it exclusively.
At this moment, however, I don't want to do that because I can't use the zips with Winamp. :P

you dont have to make ZIP files if you dont wanna...
If your mp3 and karaoke text file has the same name, and are in the same folder, VDJ will automatically detect it, and run the karaoke, if video is enabled in video settings.
No need for ZIP if you dont want it;) The zip support is added as most karaoke djs do have them zipped

the only problem with not zipping is 1. they'll show up twice on the browser one as mp3 and the other as cdg and 2. if u zip u can save a great deal of space when the cdg file is compressed
