As I'm opening some of my mp3 files using cool edit, I'm noticing that usually they are identified as "mpeg-1 layer 3" files. However some of them come up identified as "mpeg-1 layer 1" files. What's the difference? Some that are identified as such are songs that I have actually used over the months with Atomix, so I don't think they are causing any problems.... I was just suprised to notice this. (think these files should be resampled?)

Thanks for any enlightment.

I know that mp3 = MPEG 1.0 layer 3... The number 3 in "mp3" indicates the layer (3). It's strange that you have some mp3 layer 1. Control with winamp (right clic on the file for infos) if your layer is really 1.
