I had been collecting shaders from shadertoy.com and have a nice list. Then somehow I stumbled onto the fact that MilkDrop, which I hadn't seen for years, is still being developed.
I found that running MilkDrop3 alongside VDJ works, you can switch your 2nd screen from one to the other, but it is a little bit clunky if you only have a single screen. Wouldn't it be great if you could get MilkDrop (or any video source for that matter) into the video source list?
Here's how to do it via Spout, which "leverages your graphics card enabling to you send realtime video between Windows applications with near-zero latency or overhead". Note that you need the Pro version of Mildrop3 to get Spout functionality.
The first thing I suggest you do is download MilkDrop from https://github.com/milkdrop2077/MilkDrop3 and get it going. Lash out, support the developer and pay $USD10 for the plus version which supports the developer and gives 1000 presets. But to get Spout functionality in MilkDrop you need to get the pro version via https://www.patreon.com/MilkDrop3
The next thing is to grab the Spout code from https://github.com/leadedge/SpoutVDJ . It talks a bit about VDJ version 8, but I have it working in 2025. From there it is a matter of following the instructions moving a couple of .dll files. I
Once you do that, restart VDJ and be impressed

FWIW, I have no affiliation with the MilkDrop developer.

....or you could just run MilkDrop from directly within VirtualDJ.
