I have been working on this issue hours now and its above my tech level, im not bashful to ask for helo,
I just got a new to me PC and did a clean install of win10, after getting it set up i installed vdj 2025 pro infinity license and went to my old comp with all my lists, history, database etc,
i saved the virtual dj folder from my old pc to my zip and went to documents on the new pc and its empty no vdj folder.
after online research i learn that this is now where vdj places the its folder, but many out there like myself want it where its been in documents,
i have tried reinstalling and even 2020 version, ive made sure there were no footprints left and still it insists on installing to appdata folder,
so is this the new location vdj is going to use? we should have options here.
Some of us want the folder in documents so could a kind person please walk me through just how to make that happen.
many thanks!

You can change the home folder location in the registry. Takes 10 seconds.
Run regedit as admin, navigate here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VirtualDJ then change the "HomeFolder" key to the location of your documents folder.
For example C:\Users\myusername\documents\virtualdj\
You can also modify this text and save as a .reg file then run as admin and it will change the registry automatically.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VirtualDJ]
"RunFolder"="C:\\Program Files\\VirtualDJ\\"
"HomeFolder"="C:\Users\myusername\documents\virtualdj\"

Thank you,
I saw it a time or two before making my post,
But my OCD still is curious, is this new file location a change made in vdj or a mistake in the program?
If that's the case Is your fix basically rewiting the program flaw back to what old versions had as the fold location,
I messed with it with several old versions being a bit perplexed how version 2018 installed to a clean win 10 made the file location to appdata,
One post I read suggested fingerprints left by previous vdj installs,
Okay, in my case I had installed 2024 then uninstalled the full uninstall,
So I uninstalled 2018 and tried 2021 which wouldn't install at all, some bad copy or idk,
So I tried a 2020 version woohoo it worked, fold back in docs which mine is on d drive to save space on c drive,
Of course this was on thurs and i resident dj fri sat so didnt have time to see what happens when i try to update,
Which is another question when does vdj actually look for updates, i do not see a setting like most progs that let you check for updates real time.

It was a security requirement from Microsoft, not a bug. Old installs still used documents but any new installs used the new location.
You can download and install previous versions below, however it's recommended you always use the current public release build.
You're just creating your own problems messing around to be honest.

Did vdj post about this change?
Messing around as in editing the registry ?
When I have a chance I'll update, ahem when vdj wants to I'll update to 2024, if it keep vdj in doc okay, if it goes to appdata okay.
So, does the path update in users past playlists?

Yes it was a topic at the time, it's been in place for years but you've obviously never done a reinstall since then.
Messing around as in installing old and new versions.
The past playlists link to the actual music files so nothing to do with the home folder location.

No, I haven't done a reinstall in years, I guess I'm lucky in that my stuff seems to work very well both home and my residency so I don't visit here too much and missed when vdj made the change and accounted it, hum, i wonder is there a email list from vdj that's sends out important info like this?
Some consider a regular edit to change something that as you point out is an update not a bug or mistake would be messing around too, guess its perspective
Now if this update is important I wonder why updates do not make the change, or do they?
Yes, I understand a playlist path goes to where the song is stored I was talking about where playlists are stored and those of us perhaps I'm the only one who will make a playlist at home then desire to add said playlist to another comp we now go to appdata not docs to add it,
Anyway, thanks for the help, and have great holidaze I'm looking forward to my shows,
Cheers,
B
