Topic: Minor issues with new Sampler & Video

I appreciate this is not 'typical' use for the sampler but since Clipbank was removed and Don Moir's TellyMedia plugins are not supported anymore I have used the Sampler to great effect playing on-demand audio and video clips during live performances.

Since the total revamp of the Sampler I have mostly managed to adapt all my current 'clipbanks' to work as they used to and am also enjoying the new features you have introduced but have come across a few issues.

I have a video in the sampler folder (Cliff Richard - Congratulations), VDJ created a .vdjsample version of the original file and there is one version of it in the root sample folder that appears in various sample banks, however since the update the lip-sync is off and the video and audio no long play correctly.

I removed it from my sample banks, then deleted the .vdjsample file from the sample folder, and then copied it again to the sample folder and added it to one of the banks, the lip-sync is now correct but the aspect ratio is stretched, rather than the 4:3 ratio it used to play at.

Also when I added it to another bank I noticed it was copying the video file to a folder called (samplebank).oldbank each time, so now I have copies of the video file in multiple .oldbank folders, plus if I use 'Sample Editor' to change anything i.e. the sample group, it then creates a '.vdjsample' copy of the video the same size but leaves the original .mp4 as well.
I have the video in 5 sample banks so now I have 11 copies of the video file in the sampler folder, a copy of the .mp4 and the .vdjsample in each in the '.oldbank' folders that corresponds to it's sample bank, plus the original in the root folder. I have disk space but that does seem excessive.

Is there a 'correct' way to add the same sample to multiple banks without duplicate, plus could you look at the aspect issue when you can?

PS I don't mind recreating each sample bank from scratch to better suit the new format but since I am not sure what is required any advice would be appreciated.

Would it be possible to send me the original mp4 sample to try?

Sample banks now normally include all the samples in the same folder to keep everything together.
 
I have the original .mp4 and the .vdjsample file that plays out of sync if you want it, how do I send them to you?

That is a good idea, but perhaps if the sample is in the 'Sample' root folder you could have just the one copy, that way any changes would be global irrelevant of the sample bank it's in, or if you want changes kept 'local' to each sample bank, then just have the '.xml' details in the .oldbank folder rather than the media itself.

Were you able to find the cause of this problem, annoyingly it doesn't seem to happen on my Desktop PC but on my work laptop it happens every time and I am coming across more samples with the same issue, mainly longer .mp4 files that .vdjsample files were created from stored in the root.

I have a mp4 sample that is just music with a green screen that has some effects and text that will show over whatever is on the screen if played as a sample with transparency.
The text and effects are no longer in sync with the music but since VDJ turned it into a .vdjsample file and removed the original .mp4 when it was created years ago I no longer have the original work file to be able to re-add it so I had to create a whole new file.

I removed the 'incorrect' sample file (which was stored in the sample root folder) and copied the newly created video into a subfolder of 'Sampler' I had called ages ago called 'Video'. Virtual DJ doesn't display that folder so I had to create a new folder 'DJK Video' and place it in there.

I put that sample into the appropriate bank and went into 'Sample Editor' (from the sample bank NOT the root folder) and set transparency. The first time I tried playing the sample it still wasn't transparent just solid green, I went into the editor again and all transparency was gone. I set it again, this time when i played the sample it played the music but no video at all. I went into sample editor, there was no transparency set but the video doesn't show, no way it would work.

I went and looked in the .oldsample folder for that bank and there was no .vdjsample file for the sample there, just the .mp4 video. When I browsed the samples in Virtual DJ, there were now 2 files in the root folder with similar names, however when you go into sample editor one them has transparency. I copied that file into my sample bank and now finally it plays with transparency correctly.

And it's only taken me 2 hours to get a 1:30 min sample working properly and don't think I have the stamina to try and fix any others that don't work so please help.

NOTE: For all samples where the sync is wrong, in the sample editor the sync is fine, and if I load the sample file into a deck it will play correctly, it's only when activating it as a sample that I have an issue.
 
For the files that you sent me:
-Drag&Drop "Cliff Richard - Congratulations '67.mp4" to a sample bank worked fine.
It played and the audio and video were synchronized.
The vdj sampler will indeed stretch video files though.
Opening the sampler editor and changing the size of the video there to make the aspect ratio correct worked though.
Saving this, virtualdj saved it as "Cliff Richard - Congratulations '67.vdjsample" and this file now played with the correct aspect ratio and audio and video were still in sync.

-Drag&Drop "Congratulations V.vdjsample" to a sample bank. This also worked fine, and audio and video were also in sync.
I'm not sure how this sample was originally created, it was already widescreen with blurred bars on the side added, so either used a different source file, or was re-saved in virtualdj perhaps loading the song on the decks?

Either way I'm not sure why the audio and video would have become out of sync for you. The video part of the sampler was not changed between VDJ 2024 and VDJ 2025

Indeed it does play fine, that was the original file not the sample, I sent it to you for comparison.

You learn something new each time, I didn't realise you could change the size of the video

This is the file I have problems with, it does play fine on my PC but not on my work laptop, I use this file a few times every week and it played fine right up until the update the other week.

I respect you saying the sampler was not changed between the versions but something definitely has changed that affects some videos when played as samples under certain circumstances (ie on my laptop at least, am I that unique) because I can guarantee they were playing fine a few weeks ago and they are not now. I have an intro track that I play EVERY MONDAY and it has played correctly right up until the update, now it doesn't.

As always I will keep investigating and because I am not privy to what has been changed i will eventually stumble upon some random thing that causes this behaviour and someone will say "oh yeah under those circumstances that will happen!".
 
Samples don't appear to rotate phone videos or other video that is not 16.9 to correct orientation, they play correctly in the decks but sideways if a sample.

PS I tried changing aspect and saving the sample but it stopped playing the video,only audio then VDJ crashed when I tried to remove it from the sample bank (recycle dialog hung on screen).
I am having serious problems with the new sample interface, probably because I am using it as if it's the old sampler but I don't know how else to use it.
 
When VDJ 2025 was on EA in November there was an issue with some videos not playing in the sampler, but that was fixed very soon afterwards (before full release).

Telly visuals still work for me .. Just not the chat integrations from x and push bullet .they did however just loose the website so if you don't have a copy you can't go download it anymore or get forgotten password 🙃
