When I call up "Search Playlists" via Custom Button (or Info > in Playlist > Search History and Playlists ...), I usually only get a blank window and the search of the database (below with the progress bar) does not start.
Only after trying again and again and again and sometimes waiting up to 15 minutes does the green progress bar start at the bottom for a few seconds, "Searching" appears and the database is searched and the result appears.
My database is perhaps too large with 200 MB and many entries?
My Windows Gamer PC is actually extremely fix (I7, 16GB RAM)!
Hard disks all internal.
The PC is optimized for music operation in almost all respects!
Cleaning up the database did not bring any improvement.
When I quit Virtual DJ and start it again, the result is IMMEDIATELY back!
After a reboot, however, it takes forever again!
Does anyone have a tip on what I can improve or whether it is the same for him?
Thanks in advance

Been an issue for a while now. It's related to folder search and that didn't work for me this morning either when I wanted to find the playlist for a previous gig.
I just keep forgetting to report it.

Thanks for the quick response. Now it's registered ;-)
Strangely enough,
with the action command "search_folder", it works instantly at lightning speed!
With the action command "search_playlists" it just takes a very long time.

Here both search_playlists and search_folders are instantaneous.
for reference, in the Homefolder, the OS shows:
Playlists, as 257KB , Folders, 7.63MB and History 354KB
(note, History is only being used now during actual gigs, since it must show in Link Tracks)
Win 10
8225

Thank you for testing!
I think the speed is not related to the number/size of the playlists, but to the size of the database.xml.
How big is your database.xml?
Does anyone know how to make them smaller?
Delete and recreate is not an option, because then all POIs are gone!

No, the database is read during startup, so if that would be slow you would see vdj taking a long time to open.
You can check systemreport.txt in your VirtualDJ folder to see how many files are in your database and how long it took to open though, that could perhaps give some indication if something is wrong.

I can't find a sytstemreport.txt file... :-(

It's created when you press the cog in Options to open the virtualdj folder

Should have posted MyLists 344KB (instead of Playlists, which believe Playlists is not used VDJ 2024)
and the 2 major database sizes for reference, (on the 2 drives) are: 171,545KB and 29,098KB.
Didn't mention database size since feel, the database does not contain any info about playlists/folders, history etc.
As the database contains the info that is more associated with that info, contained in the Tag, and POI editors.
PS
the systemreport.txt contains a list of System info listing info about:
computer, midi, hid, and audio, devices that are connected/detected.
and it is a one time list/report, from: " --- VirtualDJ System Report --- 2023-09-26 11:07 ---"
Not an ongoing report of system slowdowns, errors, or load times, etc.
(just lists detected devices/hardware).

in my systemreport.txt I find the values:
-- Database --
Loading database D: (9.51 MB)
Loading database X: (196.58 MB)
Database loading time: 421.78 ms - Number of entries: 188796
I think that's ok.
And yes, I guess the database is not the problem. (Still, I found a few bugs in my database.xml today with notepad++: duplicate attributes. Corrected. Starting search_playlists was still not possible immediately after a reboot)
Thought:
Whether the delay has something to do with the virus program, ransomware protection or firewall?
I have not installed an external virus program, only the Windows' own on-board tools!

I'm asking today: Is this unusual in terms of values?
Just for fun, I deleted my database with a lot of POI changes on a test system (even though, as mentioned, it doesn't help the matter) and rebuilt it. The size then shrank from 200 MB to 12 MB! Maybe there is a lot of garbage and POI etc. in the database!? Is there a tool to successfully shrink an existing database?

Since your previous post said MB I suppose you meant 200 MB and not 200 GB?
The 12 MB is without your cue point changes then? For the same data normally it shouldn't be that different

oh sorry, I made a mistake and corrected myself! MB not GB!
Yes, there are no cue points... I just deleted the database.xml and scanned everything in again...
I can only find tools online to shrink xml files. and 200 GB is too big for that, if it's even possible.... I was also unsuccessful with notepad++....

oh man, I made a mistake again, they are rebuilt without POIs in the size of the database.xml 78 MB!

A few months later I made further progress in my analysis:
It's probably not VirtualDJ but Windows!
The fact is that it always works after about 5-15 minutes!
Now I have noticed that if I open Virtualdj 5-15 minutes after starting the PC it works immediately!
Ergo: Windows is the problem!
The symptoms were exactly the same on a slower Windows 10 as they are now on the GamerPC with the latest Win11.
Does anyone have a tip as to what is taking so long on the computer and blocking the search playlists?
