Topic: Precompute stems and renaming files

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I didn't realize the stems had to generate new files.
It triples the space used!
If I rename a file outside of VDJ, will the stem file no longer be read?

No the stems do not HAVE TO generate new files
they do create only if setting precomputeStems is set to "Always create"
In case you modify filename from outside VDJ yes the stem file won't be read again and a new one will be created taking even more additional space

This takes 3 to 5 time more space a simple track
unless precomputeStems is set to "Create manually" and system is powerful enough to create them on the fly temporary or set to "Only use precomputed" and no file was manually created
