I do not use Serato because each time a music file is loaded Serato modifies Tags. I don't care for Play Count, or Key, or other Tag garb. If I'm not selecting by my gut, I heavily use BPM & my gut to program dance songs from my record collection.
I use external software (Kid3, Media Monkey...) to setup Tag information on my music library. I prefer this because I'm in control of songs Title, Artist, Album, Comment, BPM etc. Any song added to my collection, I wipe ALL Tags if necessary and format the Tags information to my criteria. I am a turntable for life DJ. It appears Serato is most used by turntable DJs, DJ software is becoming controller centered.
I use my folder file layout to organize my music collection. DJ software will use a database to write/read and cache music file information.
I don't use Serato or NI Traktor because I cannot disable Tag writes. When Serato plays a raw waveform file... it cannot write Tag, they don't exist. Why force it on MP3, write everything to a database...
I ask this question on Serato, Recordbox, Traktor and other DJ forums. I looking for the next DJ software I can move my Music Library too.

I always turn writeTagAuto off
Too often a bad formed tag (bug in writter, charset issue, ...) killed the latest must have track

So are you saying the feature is supported in VirtualDJ? I can prevent any Tags from being changed? If so it's time to download the demo and check it out.

It's the default even. Only if you enable this option or manually press write tags in the tag editor will the file be modified

So cool, I think I'm going to like Virtual DJ. I've been looking for a long time software to transition too that does not write Tags!
