Topic: RAW (.arw pictures)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I tried looking on how to display the RAW (.arw pics taken from a digital Camera) but failed. VDJ don't seem to support this format (slideshow).
I know JPG is no problem but the RAW (.arw) pics are much better quality than JPG.

Is there a way beside converting it to JPG ? I think Tellymedia does not support this .ARW format either.

Should I put this in WISH list ?

Thanks.

A file with the ARW file extension stands for Sony Alpha Raw, and is, therefore, a Sony RAW Image file. It's based on the TIF file format and is similar to other RAW files from Sony cameras, like SR2 and SRF files.

A RAW image format just means that the file hasn't been compressed or manipulated in any way; it's in the same raw form it was when the camera first captured it.

RAW files of any kind, especially a specific variety like Sony's format usually wouldn't be supported in most applications. RAW files were meant to be compressed and altered in some way. The files are huge and even though they have the most information, they still could use some post-processing to bring the gloss or style out of them. Often times the saturation, levels, curves, brightness, contrast, and shadows-highlights could use a finishing touch.

Even Pro photographers convert to TIFF, JPEG, or PNG and you can preserve 90 to 100% of it's quality.
