Topic: Reading ID3 tag info from .mp3 files

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi folks. I have tried to read everything I can find about this topic but I still don't understand how it works.

I understand that there is no tool to take the database.xml file and write all the tag info into the actual id3 tags in the files. So I am using a 3rd party tool to analyze all of the tags in my files, then I am updating all of the tags, then writing the ID3 tags back into the files. Then I go into Virtual DJ, select a bunch of files, click the Reload Tags option. But nothing I updated in the tags has been modified.

If I delete the entries in the database.xml file (actually just renamed the whole file so a new one would be created), then the actual ID3 tags get read and the new modified information goes into the new database.xml file.

However, I have done a large amount of BPM editing of songs so I am not prepared to delete the entire database.xml file just to get updated tag info into the database.

What am I missing here? It seems the 'Reload Tags' option really means just read in the entries from the database.xml file. So how do I get the actual new ID3 tag data into the database without having to delete everything first?

It works ok here I think
I tested using the comments tag, and as seen in the video I need to refresh the browser list in the end (by going to another folder and back)
But apart from that it seems to work ok, without needing to remove the trackfrom the database:

There certainly used to be. It may not have an obvious name, but I'm sure there is at least one.

[later] I think what you'll have to do is:
1) make a copy of your VDJ 8 DB
2) convert the copy from 8 DB format back to 7 DB format (there's a tool for that)
3) use one of the old VDJ 7 utils to write from the converted DB to your files
