1. You should install the AA VMS ASIO Drivers
2. You should have both Speakers and Headphones connected to the VMS4. Works as an external analog mixer
3. Click on the special VMS4 button in the AUDIO VDJ Settings to create the proper default audio configuration

As DJDad says the VMS 4 is a real mixer so you don't map the pfl and don't setup vdj using a master/headphone configuration.

I would suggest setting the front panel ch1..4 switches to usb, CF-assign to off, set "8-out" mode then assign virtual dj decks 1..4 to the vms 4 channels 1..8 as shown here http://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/americanaudio/vms4/advanced/midilogs.html

Play 4 different tracks decks through the 4 channels to master out, check each channel fader in turn is controlling the track volume you are expecting to master out (you may have to check deck-order if things aren't as you expect). Now set "cue mix" to cue and the gain near headphone jack to minimum then press cue on any of the vms 4 channels to switch between the 4 playing tracks and slowly increase the headphone gain. If you can't hear the "cued" channel on your headphones the issue is with the vms 4 (or your headphones), not the software.
