Topic: Changing pitch without affecting tempo?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there everyone,

I find it a little strange how I don't see an option to be able to change or more specifically increase the pitch of a track?

I find that if I loop one section of track A within the buildup of track B I want to be able to increase the pitch of track A to create a rising affect but I can not do this without affecting the tempo. Is there a way to do this natively in VirtualDJ?

I have the Mixtrack 3 Controller to use with virtualDJ if there is a feature I can use with this controller that would allow me to do it.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated :)

Hi MoonJacker,

I think you wnt to try changing the key maybe that is the effect your your after.

In VDJ the Pitch is the Tempo

Yes, the action you're looking for is key_smooth

If you are not beat-mixing, you can simply disable 'Master Tempo' from the menu below the pitch fader.
Otherwise you should use the 'Pitch' effect from the effect list.

If I change the key that does not create a pitch rising effect, I know that the pitch is locked to the tempo but is there a way to unlock it so that the tempo can stay the same but the pitch can change up or down on the fly?

Where is this located?

I have done that but then it corrects the pitch in reference to the current tempo, then when I use the slider the tempo still changes unfortunately.

You can also use the keycue pads for it, if you want to go 1 semitone at the time

Like this (with and without cue jump)
