I don't know, this seems quite obvious like with Windows files within a folder full of files. When you type 'w' it will jump straight to files starting with 'w' and when I type 'a' and 'v' chances are it will jump straight to Avici tracks from where I can continue search by simple scrolling on a controller.
As far I can see you have to first place your cursor in the search field and then type in order to filter songs, which also results with the need to delete the name typed to see all the songs in the playlist again.
This is very basic stuff that should be a standard in intuitive user interface.

VDJ has the keyboard mapped to control functions in the software.
Placing the cursor in the search box tells VDJ that you want to use the keyboard to type something in, rather than control the decks, mixer etc.

I have one of my keys on the controller to clear search bar and have the cursor ready for next search, maybes you can apply the same to a keyboard key.
