Hey guys,
I haven't used VDJ in at least a year. I'm running VDJ 7 on a Toshiba laptop with an AMD Vision processor and running 4GB memory:
Processor AMD E-350 Processor, 1600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
The last time I've used it, the laptop could barely keep up with VDJ, almost constantly maxing out the CPU usage, but it never froze (knock on wood).
Now, every time I start VDJ7, it tells me there's a new version of VDJ. I'm assuming it's referring to 8.1.
Do you guys think it's a good idea to upgrade to 8.1, or will my computer not be able to keep up?
Of course, I could just try, but the problem is that I have a private party that people expect me to DJ tonight. If I find out 8.1 doesn't cut it, I might look like an idiot tonight...
Help?

So don't uninstall VDJ 7.
You can quite easily install VDJ 8 and use it alongside 7 without disturbing anything.

VDJ7 has had some updates since you last used it as well

I've a similar relic of a machine, stripped down os wise, keyboard only v8 runs fine, audio and milkdrop only, plug a controller with external sc and things max out,
The proof of the pudding is the eating, give v8 a go, you already know you need a newer machine, v8 might be the tool that finally makes you make that move.

Well, thanks for the comments! I actually did some testing on Saturday, and downloaded V8. Turns out V8 is lighter on the CPU than 7 (unless it's my imagination). Saturday night went smooth. I had to switch to the V7 theme, because I didn't have time to get used to the new V8 theme, but aside from a few UI stutters when loading a new song, everything kept purring like a kitten.
Oh, and it was a hell of party :)
