how do i set the BPM of a track by typing.

right click song, open tag editor , select BPM and type new number.
 
You can do that, but the beat grid (CBG) won't alter to match.

The correct way is to analyse the file with VDJ. If you then need to adjust anything, use the BPM Editor.
 
That's such a new user desired "I want to type my tempo" so very pointless but it will be requested again and again.
