Topic: lost my database after big computer failure

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is there a way to rebuild the database back to normal after a total crash on the laptop hard drive. I have all the history saved and was wondering if there is a tool to rebuild the most played part of the database from the history files as I have had to rescan all the tracks back in but still in the history it has the amount played and last played etc. please tell me there is a tool for this or could some genius make one.

No, unfortunately there isn't.
But if you have a backup of a v7 db that could be used to rebuild a v8 db.

There is (possibly) the data recovery route, whilst you're HD might not boot, in some instances you can recover files hooking it up as a secondary drive, I've recovered stuff with free tools this way from drives that said "I've broken the MPF", if you are only after the database.xml the it shouldn't be too painful as you know it's exact address, it all depends on how broken it is.

Good luck,

HD recovery would be great but soooo expensive. and the disc has been fried :(

Are you after the db.xml or the actual db?

if just the xml it isn't that hard, of course depending on how dead the hd is.
