Topic: Playlist format is different and cannot be imported in Rekordbox

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Since I updated VDJ to version8 I cannot import the m3u playlist any more in Rekordbox. I use USB sticks as a backup in case the laptop stops working. I mentioned that the format of the m3u file in VDJ8 is different then the VDJ7 format.
===========================
VDJ7
#VirtualDJ Playlist
#MixType=Smart
C:\Users\rero\Music\top40\2003\Special D. - Come With Me.mp3
==================================================
VDJ8
#EXTVDJ:<filesize>6303972</filesize>
\Users\rero\Music\80's\80's Top Killers (2009)\CD1\A-Ha - Take On Me.mp3

The first line(filesize etc.) is above every track. Rekordbox can't handle it.

Is it possible to change this, I really would like to Update my Rekordbox playlists again? Or is there another solution to do this.?

Regards and thanks in advance.

I would see the problem more in line 2 because the drive letter is not part of the .m3u file.
Maybe recordbox require absolute path ?

I thin lines starting with a hashtag (#) are ignored as comments.

Very strange,...

@Devs
is there a reason why the C driveletter is not displayed in the playlists, while drive letters of other drives are displayed?

Paths are stored relative to the folder the playlist is in. This makes the playlists more independent of drive letter changes for example.

No they are not.

Have a look at this:

#EXTVDJ:<filesize>3738469</filesize>
\Users\VDJ\Desktop\mp3\Kronic & Krunk vs The Chainsmokers - Hey Ho Let Me Take A Selfie (Matello Mashup) (Extended).mp3

#EXTVDJ:<filesize>3497306</filesize>
\Users\VDJ\Music\mp3\Kronic x Krunk - Hey Ho Extend John Cha Dirty.mp3

If they path were relative to the path the playlist is in (C:\Users\VDJ\Documents\VirtualDJ\Playlists)
the path should read

\Music\mp3\Kronic x Krunk - Hey Ho Extend John Cha Dirty.mp3 and
\Desktop\mp3\Kronic & Krunk vs The Chainsmokers - Hey Ho Let Me Take A Selfie (Matello Mashup) (Extended).mp3

And for other/ external drivers, there is still a drive letter.

Starting a path with a \ typically indicates the root of the drive, so if the playlist is in C:\Users\VDJ\Documents\VirtualDJ\Playlists, then \ would start at c:\
If the file is on other drives, the drive letter still has to be added, since there's no other way to describe that path starting from the path of the playlist.

If your example would be \Music, then that would mean c:\Music what is not the correct path.
Another possibility would be
..\..\..\Music\mp3\Kronic x Krunk - Hey Ho Extend John Cha Dirty.mp3

Unfortunately many other programs reading playlists also don't correctly interpret this form.

So, if \ is the root path, and every other drive needs the drive letter anyway, why don't you just add it for C?
It creates more incompatibility than advantages if the driveletter is missing.

Thanks for the tips. I've done a search and replace in notepad with adding c: in front of the path. And it works again. A couple of minutes work for each playlist. But a big effort.

Should be fixed in the current build.

-Save root in playlists to be more compatible with other programs

Haven't tried it yet, but already saying thanks for that.
