Topic: Version 8 not playing songs from ITunes (showing as cannot find file)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi

All my songs are stored on a NAS and i use UNC paths to retrieve the files, such as \\NASDevice\Public\Music while these songs can be access and played via the directory brower (or my computer from within VDJ). These song cannot be be play from the Itunes playlist with in VDJ as it cannot find them, yet it loads the library fine. I have done some digging and found that when i edit a song that is show as "disconnected / or unable to locate file" it reports it having a path of "\NASDevice\Public\Music" , note the single "\". if I click on "locate file" the windows explorer opens up and it actually goes to the location of that file so all I do is click on "ok" and it turns green, then when i edit the properties of that song i just added it has the 2 "\\" in.

the location of the library is correct, any one got any ideas, i have the latest version as just downloaded it today

Worth noting, that it doesnt save the change either when the file path has been updated. I have opened the itunes library file in an XML editor and could not see any errors in it.

this a copy of the section of the ITune XML file

I have taken out the "//localhost" but didnt make any difference as Itunes put it back in.

only solution is to map the drive to a letter

this isn't a bug btw
