OK since there is no answer from official sources i did some tests and this can be fact unless someone Official contradicts me
i started with a file with no tags MP3 format
load file in VDj8
tag file completely all fields on the tag editor window filled
Check the file in mp3tag and the results are
VDJ8 uses ID3v2.3
it fills these fields in the ID3 tag
Album
Artist
BPM
Comment
Composer
ContentGroup - Used for Grouping
Genre
InitialKey - Used for Key
Length - Length of the file
MixArtist - Used for Remixer
PopularMeter - used for Rating
Publisher - Used for Label
Subtitle - this is used for mix name
Title
Track - track number
Year
ALbum Art - Front Cover
these field are stored in the VDJ8 Database and not in ID3 tags

Field2
Color
Gain
any additional tags that you may have in a mp3 file will not be read by VDJ8 it has no place to store the information
When loading a MP3 file with APEv2 tags VDJ ignores all tag information in the file.
When loading a Mp3 File with ID3v1 Tags VDJ ignores all tag information in the file.
When loading a MP3 file with ID3v2.4 VDJ8 reads all tags except Album Art and stores them in the database.
When updating a file that contains ID3v2.4 tags VDJ converts those tags to ID3v2.3.
So my conclusion through exhaustive testing is the official supported tags in VDJ8 are ID3v2.3
hope this helps someone else out :-) especially those wondering why their tags don't get read by VDJ8.

FLAC Tags seem to be fully supported with all the same fields as mp3

Blame Apple for that! :)
And yes, for mp3 files VirtualDj supports id3v2.3
PS: MP4 files (or m4A) use Apple's proprietary tagging format.
Some fields are known to developers, but several others are not. Also Apple has changed the storage tag of various fields between different versions of iTunes. That's why I said "blame Apple" ;)

That's interesting.
It used to be the case (with older VDJ versions) that VDJ would give priority to v1 tags, so that even if/when you had v2 tags, VDJ would read & load the v1.
Users requested that it be swapped around - v2 first, followed by v1 - but now it seems they've just dumped v1 altogether.
For anyone having issues with blank fields, this could be the reason.

I delete my database en reload all my files -> VDJ 8 Reads all files, filters are working so far so good. Then i let VDJ 8 Batch all files for time BPM etc. But it will not store the changes in the file tag!? So when the dabase file get corrupted and you reload all mp3 the batch job you did before is gone. What do i do wrong?
