Topic: VDJ 7 AND VDJ 8 copying from other deck

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Apologies if covered before but in virtual dj7 when playing 2 tracks if you wanted to line up the beat markers once the track was in sync all you had to do was hit the bpm button and the box would come up and when you clicked on copy from other deck, the grid was lined up. In vdj 8 its not happening unless im doing something wrong. in vdj8 it seems a bit more technical to do and if you a quick mixer then that feature is important in my opinion.great for looping etc.

It was decided that way (the V7 way) wasn't good enough,

You want to add this script to a custom button/keyboard key/controller button
set_firstbeat

I think they should put it back to the vdj 7 way but that's just my opinion I suppose. who knows. Ill have a play and see what happens

An extra button on the skin would be the best way to please everybody, but I doubt it will happen.

Right-click the 'BPM' button to open up the BPM editor.
The round circle right of the BPM display opens a menu with the 'copy from other deck' option.

yes but when I press it, it does nothing. it doesn't align the beat grid up like it did in vdj 7.

well ive tried to get it set but no joy. just this small thing is why I wont be using vdj8 but will continue with 7 hoping they'll change it but I doubt it. might sound like a silly excuse but the way I use virtual dj I need that function. version 8 sounds so much better and the features and everything about it are just superb. we'll see.

Try again

set_firstbeat

it works.

ooohh. You know what. It does work. but 1 flaw in my opinion is that on trying several different tracks you have to press it a number of times unlike version 7 for the cbg to line up otherwise it works. Im gonna do a half hour mix and test it properly and report back. still cant get my copy from other deck feature to work unless im being silly. Thanks though

Yeah unlike V7 your timing has to be pretty precise with V8 (practice, it gets easier), I think it could be scripted so instead of press, you could hold it and when the other deck hits a down beat, the down beat on the selected deck is set in sync, too much going on to play with that atm, but I'll post here when I get round to it.

well ive been playing around with the set_first beat function and all is well. However I said it before and again that I still prefer the old method. Its just much quicker imo. I customised a key on my keyboard and a lot of the time it doesn't catch the beat so instead I just hold the key until it lines up and job done. However not relying on this so will just do it by the ear way. Love the sound engine in VDJ. Mixes just sound wayyy better.

The old way was much better. Why change it? It's frustrating the way it is now

Things change. This is almost 3 years ago, and the original poster has moved on.
