I finally installed vdj8 on my gig laptop and about 700 genre tags didn't import. I use iTunes all the tags are labeled the artist and title imported just fine . Any thoughts as to why the genres didn't populate.

Please use a ID3 Tagger Software like http://mp3tagger.de to verify that the stuff is already written in the files themself.
Not shure but as i remember iTunes does not store all the stuff in the files - it uses it's internal Database for it. So ergo - it does not get imported cause it's not written in the file.

Has version 8 changed how it reads the tags? Everything imports correctly in version 7

If v7 can read them then it should work. Could you crosscheck that the tags are written in the file ? If not it could be a different problem.

The tags are written in itunes, mp3 tagger does not show the genre tag written (which I don't understand because iTunes does have it filled in) they do import correctly in v7 any suggestions?

How are you importing the data to 8?
If you have 7 on your system then 8 will by default read the info from the 7 database - and if the tags imported to 7 then they'll be in the database.
If on the other hand you're scanning your files directly into 8 then they will be read from the files.
.....or are you just looking at your iTunes database from within VDJ?

Yes I know that your files were tagged in iTunes, but how did you get the data into VDJ?
Did 8 read the data from your existing 7 database? Did you scan the files into 8 yourself? Are you accessing your iTunes database from the VDJ file system?

I right clicked on iTunes folder and selected add to search data base. When I initially installed 8 and it read the 7 database it showed over 7000 songs not tagged after I clicked iTunes and added from there it dropped the missing genres down to 700

I think i have figured it out, 7 doesn't have a category under genres called "none" like 8 does, these songs were not showing up in 7 unless i searched for the song, I search for my songs by genre, then choose the song I guess these 700 songs even though tagged in iTunes never showed in 7 under my genres now that 8 has a folder called "none" they are showing

Are you referring to the blue folder with the apple icon (root elements/iTunes) or the folder on your computer (shows plain white in VDJ)?
If there were 7000 untagged songs in the 7 database, then the tags clearly did not import correctly in v7 as you stated.
Did you use the same importing method in 7?

Yes the blue iTunes icon. In 7 I imported directly from the iTunes music folder. Right clicked add to search database. Even though 8 initially showed 7000 missing songs. I know that most of those songs showed in 7
