Topic: I can´t Play FLAC Files Urgent Help Please

Hello Community

i think the title says all, i have a session on saturday, have lose all my music, and now i get it on FLAC format, and nothing goes out, only noise, and na amount time to load the file... i need urgente help please

This may be due to the fact that you are using a very old version of the software that doesn't support FLAC. The version that comes with Hercules DJ Console MK2 is VirtualDJ v3.4, which is now a very old and out-of-date version of the software. There have been a vast number of changes to the software since then (We are now on v7.4) - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ_History.html

Also, make sure that the files are either 16-bit 44.1Khz or 16-bit 48Khz. Higher bit rates such as 24-bit or sample rates such as 96Khz are not currently supported (Support for these higher rates should be available in VirtualDJ v8.)

has for the flac files, i only have 24bit

Where did you get 24bit FLAC files from?

If you ripped them from CD then the data will only be 16bit resolution.

Google what? CDs are recorded at 16bit resolution. If you rip from CD to a 24bit file, the quality is not going to be better/higher.

Also, even if the files really are 24bit quality, you'd need one hell of a DJ system in order to take advantage of the increased quality. A DDJ WeGO ain't gonna cut it! It's a basic low end "consumer DJ" product.

You might be able to benefit from 24bit if you were playing via CDJ-2000s for example, as the circuitry in those would be up to the job.....but you'd also need a very high standard mixer, high quality amps, high quality speakers...

If I Google that, the only results are illegal downloads.

Ignoring the fact that you DJ with files you haven't purchased, if that file has been recorded from vinyl, it would need to have been done on a very expensive hifi system, and then cleaned up in pro audio editing software to remove any artifacts of vinyl playback such as pops, crackles and rumble.

Although I guess it's possible that someone with access to such equipment would also be filesharing, I have my doubts.

As above, VirtualDJ v7 and earlier doesn't currently support bit rates greater than 16-bit, but this should be possible in the next version v8.

NOTE: Unless you are playing through an extremely high-end system to a room full of audiophiles, there's not really any benefit or advantage using files at such a high quality level. CD quality 16-bit/44.1Khz is more than sufficient for general DJ performance and most of your crowd would not be able to tell if you were playing 128Kbps MP3's vs 320Kbps let alone 24-bit FLAC vs 320Kbps MP3 or 16-bit/44.1Khz WAV/FLAC.

That's why I asked where you were getting your 24bit files.

I know that very few places sell them, and the places that do are usually very specialist stores that sell classical music to hifi experts.

If you know a place that sells 24bit FLACs of dance music, or even rock/pop, then I'd like to know - so that I can have a listen myself and compare the quality to 16bit.

Ah OK so you DJ mainly with classical music, jazz and blues, with a few old rock and pop tracks then. That explains it!

You pay 25 dollars for each album download, then play them back on a WeGO because you "work with the best".

What speakers do you use?

Groovin...why not just help a fellow Vdj legitimate user instead of questioning his music sources? He's right...it has nothing to do with the help he is seeking.

I would offer help as I use the WeGO as well however I do not use flac so I have no clue what to say or what direction to point Al in.

Al, reading what support wrote earlier it sounds they answered "why?" So to me it looks like you may have to down convert those files to 16-bit. Perhaps try 1 to see if it works that way. Other than that it sounds like you may have to wait for V8 before you can use 24-bit flac files.

My goal is/was to educate (and be educated), not merely question his sources.

Note that support told him the same thing: Unless he's using an amazing ultra expensive high end system there's little point in playing 24bit files. Instead he's using files from an unknown source (what's he hiding?) played through a low end controller.

Well I can tell you now, I bought a recorder nearly 20 years back to put vinyl onto cd and at the time was nearly £500 quid, so I don't see why someone else wouldn't do the same nowadays to transfer files but at a much cheaper buying price then what it was.

Sometimes googling too much will not always give you the power of intelligence.
