Forum: Old versions

Topic: Full Screen, or maximise video, with single monitor?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi folks, looking for a little assistance here.

I was at a friends house recently who had a very nice entertainment setup in his living room. The main bit of kit was a media centre PC connected up to his TV and running virtual DJ.

When viewing CDG files I found it strange that he had to drag the screen bigger to get it properly viewable, but he assured me it wasn't possible to get it full screen via a key or anything. Anyway, we had all had a good drink etc so didn't really explore the option. The next time I spoke to him he told me that he had figured out how to do the full screen and that it was working perfectly. I can't remember the exact key combination but it was something like shift-F10.

I decided to get virtual DJ and have a play around myself. Now, he had the pro version and I only have the home version. But I can't seem to find any information on making the video full screen when using a single monitor, ie a media centre PC hooked up to a TV. Is it possible to get full screen using this method? I don't use a secondary display or anything like that so I have no way of "extending" the desktop.

I've asked my friend via FB, need to wait on him getting back to me with the combination he is using but I'm worried that it may not be a default option?

Thanks

BTW I understand that I may not be able to get fullscreen with the home version, I don't want to pay for the full version without knowing what I need to do is possible first though.

Full screen video is only possible in the full VirtualDJ Professional. All other versions are limited to a small window that can't be resized (This may be a OK if you are just using it at home for fun and it's big enough for you to read.)

To configure full-screen video output in the full Pro, please read our FAQ pages: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20output%20video%20or%20karaoke%20to%20a%20TV%20or%20projector.html

A comparison of the features in each version can be found on the following page: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html

NOTE: If you are using a single display, then you will need to keep it in window mode rather than full-screen or you won't be able to access VirtualDJ. In the full Pro you can manually click on the standard maximise button of the video window to maximise it on demand, or you can resize the window to a more appropriate size using your mouse.

Thanks for the reply. I just spoke to him about it and he said he can't get the full screen to work either, I was mistaken with what he was telling me.

With the pro version there is no full screen or maximise option when using a single display. Well, none that he can find anyway. The maximise button doesn't work, even in the pro mode, it's grayed out. I guess it also only works with a secondary display.

In order to encompass the entire screen the best way he has found of doing it is to manually resize the window to the size of the screen and then using ctrl-v as a video shortcut to display and hide the window. When listening to a music playlist obviously it stays invisible, when viewing a karaoke track, if it doesn't automatically pop up, ctrl-v brings up the resized window instantly.

It's a bit of a fudge but I guess it works.

I'm going to hold off on the pro version just now as it doesn't really seem catered to what I'm after. I'll have a look around and see what else is on offer.

The way it works is suited to what 99.9% of users (DJs/VJs) will be doing - using the VDJ interface on their screen and sending the video output to screens for the audience.

If you just want something to watch videos yourself, you could use any number of non-DJ/VJ programs.

Karaoke software though, I don't know much about - but my guess would be that most would be designed the same way as VDJ, to send the video to a second screen.

Most karaoke programs give the option to do either, the free ones I've tried do anyway.

It was more the playlist and mixing capabilities of VDJ that caught my interest, the karaoke capability just makes it the all in one package for me. It's pretty complex, but in being so complex it would appear that just about anything you need is possible with it.

It's just a little strange that such a complete package wouldn't allow such a simple feature... maximise window. I understand the reasons for it with regards to the home version, as that's the draw of the pro version, but it seems a bit of an oversight that it's not in the pro version.

Given the amount of queries with regards to full screening video I'm not the only person who has found issue with the workings of it. Granted, my query is a little rarer given that I'm only looking to maximise the window on one monitor, but even with multiple monitor use a maximise button would save so much hassle. Alt-enter to fullscreen would make a world of difference also, as I guess that's the windows default for full screen.

Why cater to 99% when you can cater to 100%?

you can't click (double click) to maximize the screen but you can drag and resize to full screen (pro only).

I think it's design that way so you have access to your deck controls.

If you have a second screen, it will full screen automatically.

Hey, I have VirtualDJ Pro , But I don't want it to be fullscreen. I try changing the skin size of my player and it still zooms in to my screen. Any help ?

Which Version do you have exactly....see under Config/ Info....
