I've tried everything, and finally, after talking to Rane I've come the the conclusion that the Sl4 box won't work with control vinyl or control cd's in VDJ. The SL4 will pass the audio through, but it won't pass the time code information. I learned the hard way, I purchase a used SL4 box thinking that I could have the best of both worlds, VDJ and Serato without switching boxes. Don't do it!!! If you want to control your music using a midi control surface, that might work. But I use vinyl and cd's. If anyone has a magic trick to get it working with control code on a mac or pc, let me know. Please don't send me any messages asking me why I want to use Serato also, this is not us versus them.

Are you trying to run the box at 96kHz? Switch it to 48kHz and try again.

Yes I tried that. Rane told me that they block the signal that sends the time code. Do you have it working?

Hmm, this is the first time I've heard of this and I'm pretty sure there are others here who have used it. Unfortunately I don't have one to test. Seems pretty stupid on Ranes part for basically blocking other programs from using their box.

Yea. I've had some fun with the SL4 box too:

I haven't tried it with the latest version of Virtual DJ since my original problem a few months ago, but the problem stemmed from the fact that you need to use the VDJ Advanced Configuraiton to correctly set the input and output channels, and VDJ doesn't support any of the frequencies used by SL4 in the Advanced Configuration.
Does anyone know if VDJ supports the 48KHz and 96KHz frequencies in the Advanced Configuration now?
I don't think Rane intentionally block the time code signal. It sounds more like the Rane spokesperson you were speaking to just didn't want to support the software and configuration you are using.
I last tried this a few months ago, so things may have changed since then.

Well here's what Rane told me. They said that they didn't want to have any problems with other manufactures of the hardware such as NI, because that's where NI makes their money, in the sound cards. He said "we do things legal here, everybody doesn't do things legal, but we do". My impression from him is that the sl boxes are designed not to broadcast the time code information from other DV software, it will only let the audio through. I haven't heard of anyone that has gotten it to work either on the Mac or PC. As of now VDJ only supports 48k.

I think Rane is going you a line of shit cause here they clearly say it does work, http://serato.com/forum/discussion/440445
EDIT.........
Homeboy up top was right VDJ advanced config works with 44.1kHz (CD quality) only. Looks like if you can hold off until VDJ 8 you'll be good to go.......

It smells like bovine excrement to me. :-)
It lets sound through, but not timecode? Timecode signal is sound!
I thought the recent VDJ updates had resolved the 44.1k limitation. Oh well, may be not.
