Topic: Distortion sound when I use USB sound card on my MAC :(

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hey there ,

I just bought a brand new mac book pro so that i can start to learn DJing. So the firsty thing I did was got the VDJ pro and USB sound card (got it on ebay for 2$).

When i used the same set up in my windows laptop it works just fine. But when i use it on my mac i get this distortion sound from my USB sound card.

Upon investigating , i found that i CANNOT change the setting in the < audio setup > from 48000 to 44100 to match the one thats on the built in sound card or mac.

Please i am new here , any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The sound card may not support changing the rate (Some don't have this option.)

For bet results and sound quality, you should purchase a proper dedicated multi-channel DJ sound card such as Numark DJIO. This will eliminate compatibility issues that can arise from using two different sound cards.

Please also register your Pro serial number on the page http://www.virtualdj.com/users/edit.html and then download the latest version from the Download Center: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html

If you have not purchased VirtualDJ Pro then please support the software and its future development by purchasing it: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

Can you please suggest any sound card which is less than 10$ , I dont want to spend so much on this as i am not a pro. I am only doing this for pursuing my hobby. Should i use that 7.1 ch USB sound card ?

I have purchased the VDJ and will update the details as soon as i get my mac back.

Regards

A 7.1 or 5.1 card should work providing that it has separate output sockets for each speaker (Front, Rear, Centre/Sub-Woofer [, Side (7.1 only)])

Hey thanks for the reply ,

the sound card i am looking at it - says 7.1 and looks like a USB memory stick and has two outputs in 3.5 mm jack. Its around 4 $ .. u think this will work.

That sound card will not be suitable. It's a virtual surround card that creates a 7.1 surround effect when plugging headphones into it. It only has one actual output. You will find that one 3.5 socket is for headphones and the other is an input for line-in/mic.

For pre-listening in VirtualDJ, you will need a sound card with separate outputs for front, rear, etc. so you can separately utilise the front for master and rear for headphones.

Here is an example:

You spent a butt-load of money on a "brand new mac" so that you can "start to learn to dj", but then you don't have any money left for a decent sound card?

Ouch!

That's why I bought a used, two year old MacBook Pro ($1050), about 18 months AFTER I started DJ-ing and making money with my "hobby".

However, I started with a cheap, off-lease (used) IBM ThinkPad ($350). VDJ Pro runs fine on the old IBM's (I checked VDJ's requirements and the laptop specs first). For what I spent on my used MBP last month, I originally bought VDJ Pro and two of the ThinkPads so I always had a spare at the event, in case of hardware problems. Do you have a backup computer in case someone spills a beer on your computer when they make a request?

Frankly, the main reason I bought a MBP was so I could run Serato with my Technics 1200's and Rane TTM-57. I have VDJ on the Mac, but I run VDJ with the MixTrack Pro. I wanted to try vinyl, and found a buddy with a deal I could not pass up on the 1200's and Rane. Unfortunately, VDJ doesn't work with the TTM-57, as far as I can tell, and the old laptop couldn't handle Serato, so I found a used MBP.

I know you've already spent the money on your laptop, but for anyone else reading this... You don't always have to get the newest technology to do the job. VDJ runs great on many older, reliable systems too.
