IMO you should get something with dedicated video memory if you can afford.

It's also got Intel HD3000 graphics which has a well known issue with video playback. This system sucks for Video, would be rock solid for audio only but i'd look elsewhere.

<sigh>

All the current crop of Intel HD are Sandybridge 3000. So, unless I get an AMD (hot n bothered), I would need to spend a few c-notes to get a dedicated video card.

If this graphics card is so 'not good', then what is it good for?

Again, just light duty video/karaoke is what I have planned but emphasis is on audio.

Got the Toshiba that had (same guts) but $53 more. But seems to work much more better.

This is what happens when non-computer people buy stuff....

You want to do Karaoke, that means video something Intel has never been good at and its wait and see with Ivy Bridge. Dedicated Memory? You mean an actual video card? Good luck getting a laptop 15.6 with stand alone video card for under $500...

If you want to play video, I suggest you look at the specs required by VDJ. Last I look a budget laptop could run it, if its AMD and not Intel.

For media playback AMD has always been superior. I would suggest forget anything with HD2000 video. If you can't afford HD3000 video with I believe i5 as min configuration, get a AMD 3400mm based laptop. The APU has superior graphics and that's what your looking for. Its also thrifty on power.

It doesn't run hot, that is a myth that was even perpetuated by my A+ instructor.

Whenever talking about hardware especially laptops, you must understand in the x86/Windows world the difference between a $500 model and $1000 model is minimal....
