Topic: Virtual Folders can't drag and drop, plus cover art problem

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi, i can not drag and drop a folder from Finder on Mac onto a Virtual Folder, this is making my music organising extremely tedious, am i missing something? I basically have my music organised more or less as folders on the hard drive that reflect how i want playlists. Many of these folders of the hard drive have sub folders to to keep thongs organised and clean so i can't just go into each one and 'Select all' and then drag onto a virtual folder either. This seems a little counter intuitive, so I'm guessing I'm missing something.

Also, all my music is beautiful organised with Cover Art for everything but Virtual DJ keeps replacing them (inside VDJ, not in Finder) with generic cover art that shows a colour with the track name and artist written on it. Any idea how to stop this, its rather annoying, i took me a very long time to put cover on all of these as they are mainly recorded vinyls and now it doesn't even show them :) Again, I'm guessing I'm missing something somewhere, but after a big search i can't seem to find an answer.

Thanks

For the covers issue just go to preferences and in the covers option select "local search only"
Then just select your tracks, right click on them and select reload tags.

For your virtual folders issue perhaps you should use monitored folders instead.
Just browse to a folder you want, right click on it and select add as favorite

Cheers mate, the problem is that these folders tend to have many sub folders to keep the separate on the HD, but I want to see them all in one list within VDJ.

To give an example, when CDJs came out I started to record all my vinyls and have then numbered from 1 to 400(ish), 4ish vinyls per disc. Now that I'm embracing Digital DJing too I've ripped those CDs and they live in a folder each. Same type deal for all my CDs too and then other bits. So it's really easy to find stuff on the computer. But if I add the over folder for the vinyl CDs then I see 400 folders in it, not the tracks in one big playlist how I want them. I could add them one disc at a time, but that's gonna be a very painful experience :).

Cheers for the cover tip though mate.

Then, within VDJ File Browser do the following:

1) Browse to the "TOP" folder
2) Right click on it
3) Select RECURSE
4) Wait
Now you have a flat list of all the songs on the "TOP" folder and it's subfolders
5) Select (click) the first file in the list
6) SCROLL down to the last song
7) Hold SHIFT on your keyboard
8) Click on the last song
Now you have selected all the songs of this list
9) Drag the songs to the Virtual Folder of your choice.
10) Done!

Thank you Sir!!!!!

If its one thing I've found with VDJ, there is always a way. Ive just started assuming whenever I cone across an issue that I'm missing something rather than it being a limitation in the software.

Again, thanks for your help,
Be well!

Finally had. Night off to try this but there is no RECURSE option when I right click.

Any thoughts?

And the covers won't load their original artwork either :)

I've followed the instructions precisely to the best of my knowledge

Thanks mate, that gets me much closer, but that option still brings in tracks fom other folders that I don't want. I think I'll have to use the 'filepaths starts with' command, but how do you write it or Mac? Even the Mac version shows a Windows example and every Mac type variant I've tied has failed. I would have thought something like "Volumes\xxxx\xxxx". I've tried a few options but it doesn't work yet.

Also any idea anyone why my cover art is being replaced by crappy generic covers? I've tried what was suggested but still they remain.

On Mac it would usually be something like /Volumes/DriveName/Folder Name

NOTE: Mac uses forward-slash (/) rather than backslash (\) in its paths.

Awesome thanks mate, I think I must have been forgetting the '/' before Volumes.

Thanks for your help
