Topic: Starting Songs with full volume when fading in Automix Mode

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,
because the forum and the support told me that this is not settable at the moment, I want to ask whether the following feature could be added to the next version:

When Fading is set as Automix Type (and e.g. 8s time) the new song is always faded in and does not start in full volume.
To me that sounds extremely unprofessional, especially for normal pop songs and I would prefer having the new song started with full volume (in fact I wouldn't mind if the songs simply overlapped 8s in Automix fading, both with full volume).

So I would really appreciate it if you added this as an option or simply changed the behavior of fading in Automix in general to the suggestion.

Thank you,
Stefan

This can be done with scripts.

There are several ways to run Automix. If you click on the button just above the Automix-button and select Automix Type, there are 5 different Automix-types. I usually set it to "Smart", so VDJ determines the best possible way to change.
Just try the different types. There's probably a few that will do what you want.

I didn't want to start a discussion because after the discussions in german and with the support it is clear to me that this is not possible.

But again, what I want is the following (I need this to play a playlist of pop songs, e.g. at the diner on a wedding):

I want the new song to start IN FULL VOLUME,
I want the new song to simply overlap the end of the old song OR the old song to fade out while the new song is started IN FULL VOLUME.

What I get:
- with smart fade: to me this is no solution, VirtualDJ start in the middle of songs, cuts ends, simply does crap with the well known pop songs.
- with fade and x seconds fading time: The songs overlap, BUT the new song is always faded in, and this is NOT what I want (it sounds really bad for well known pop songs)

@fyffed: As long as you cannot tell me how this is possible I don't have a solution.

@Martin FourS: As you can see I played a lot with the Automix Types, but I can't find what I'm looking for.

So long,
poiko

I apologize if you have tried this before, but I may have a setting that will work for you. Try one of the fade style automixes set, then change the mix time to 0s. This did a cut for me between tracks. I tried several different genre's. You will probably have to set your automix points so that the tracks cut on a beat or at the spot you would like.

I am on board with Stefan! I have a support ticket for you to read. If you agree with this then make your voice heard so the fine folks at VDJ make this happen:

Message: Is there a way to auto mix songs and NOT have the program automatically fade into the next song? I have the cross over plug in but it doesn't do anything... The auto mix feature should fade out as it does but it should start the next song at the normal audio level, not fade in...

Message: You don't need any plugin for the automix.
For the current automix just use the playlist at the right side of the browser. (Drag and drop the songs you want in the playlist, then press the little green automix button to enable it). In automix options set an automix type other than "smart", then you will see more options like automix length. Try the settings and adjust as you like. According to my tests the upcoming song fades in.
Best regards.

Message: Thank you. But I don't want the upcoming song to fade in. Is there a way to make it start cold? Meaning the upcoming song starts playing at it's normal volume? Many songs begin with vocals or some unique aspect of the music that gets lost because the app fades it in. Seems like a simple tweek but I can't figure out how to do it. Unless the app is not designed that way??

Message: I see what you mean and i totally agree. The only way is to set the automix length really low like 1 sec, but then the mix is not smooth and you risk to add silence for some tracks. I will make a suggestion to the dev team about this. You can do the same of course in the New features forum.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, was away. This is my version, I use a keyboard macro, eq crossfader along with a automix script to do this. This is how it works, a playlist loaded my keyboard macro (running in background) activates a new jingles every 20 sec, then activte my automix script @ every 2min 15sec (can be whatever), my automix script key (A) does a few things, loads the next song in the playlist, if deck 1 is playing, move crossfader 50%, adjust eq crossfader low 65%, then complete a 5 sec fade, if deck 2 is playing then do the opposite for crossfader & eq crossfader low. I f you think this will work for you PM me.
