Topic: How can i hear the next tune i'm mixing in only one the headphones?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I've got 2x multi-channel soundcards installed, whichever one i plug speakers or headphones into is where all the music is heard... that's what i wanted, i want to be able to use headphones to mix in the next tune without it being head on the recording.

Ok i've looked at that and tried the methods, none of them work, i don't know what's wrong.

Here's a picture of my soundcard with the speakers and headphones plugged in to the front out and rear out socket: http://imageshack.us/f/823/37963263.jpg/

No matter what it won't play music in both at once, i only ever hear sound in one. I've used the crossfader correctly on virtual DJ and it doesn't help.

I even tried using two soundcards, with the speakers plugged into one and the headphones plugged into the other, it still won't work.
 
"Use the Headphone MIX knob on the default 4 deck skin to adjust how much of pre-listened deck vs the live playing one is heard in your headphones."

Which knob is that? Can't see one called mix.

Edit found it, still didn't help. Seems that as long as the speakers have sound coming out, the headphones just won't work.
 
The help guide talks of needing a "stereo sound card" how do I know if my souncard is stereo and is that important?
 
Honestly i've tried everything, this just won't work, i don't get it, it's very frustrating because some tunes won't sync the bpms and so if i want to use them I need to beatmatch in the headphones.
 
That's an external multi-channel 5.1 sound card and is not supported by Home FREE.

The configure VirtualDJ Home FREE as follows:

Inputs: None
Outputs: Headphones
Sound card: 2 cards - Choose your laptop's built-in sound card in the first drop-down list and the basic USB sound card in the 2nd drop-down.

The headphone mix and volume knobs can be found at the top of the default 4 deck skin in VirtualDJ Home FREE.

Alternatively, purchase either VirtualDJ Basic or the full VirtualDJ Professional and you can use the 5.1 sound card that you posted above (The full Pro is required if you also wish to be able to use MIDI controllers, full-screen video, etc.)
