Topic: Do I NEED to use an Asio drver?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

okay... i have the Behringer U-Control USB sound card connected to an external mixer. It's a plug and play usb soundcard. It works and sounds great.

Behringer does make an Asio driver for this soundcard.

Is there any reason I need to install the ASIO driver for this soundcard instead of just using it the way I've been using it?

Will I gain any benefits from using an Asio driver instead of the Windows 7 driver?

If you're not a scratch DJ, then there's no real need to install the ASIO driver.

ASIO allows much lower latency audio which will give much better/realistic response when scratching. The downside of this is that it is more susceptible to sound break-up (Stuttering, etc.) if your computer is not optimised. Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

If you're happy with it as it is now, then there's no need to fix what's not broken.

Latency isn't just about scratching - it's about things responding when you need (or expect) them to.

For example with high latency you may notice a delay between pressing start or cue and hearing the song.

It's always best to use a professional low latency sound card, regardless of whether you're scratching or not.
