Topic: VDJ 7.0 to Traktor Pro 2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello Guys,

Just speaking my mind about VDJ7 Pro.

I like the software fine dont get me wrong, but there is a major bug for me... "The songs wont Sync 100%"

i am playing a set and i realize that the beats are off by just a tiny bit... the crowd may not notice it... but i can.

i had to turn off VDJ and just continue with my memory cards... all of the sudden my library went from 10k +... to 200+... its alright the show went fine.

however i got home to trouble shoot and same issue while mixing with VDJ the beats are off, like i can't fine tune it no matter what i do.

off VDJ i can fine tune it just fine... so i downloaded traktor just to test the same songs and beat match them... and they were perfect!

so is this a bug? can it be fixed? is it the grid system not working properly?

anyone else with this issue?

Update: bought traktor and so far is great... but i would like to have both working so i can switch back and forth...

your not mixing by ear, your using the sync button and visual aid.

Worst this you can do with this program! do yourself a favour and download CMS4 skin, you can get rid of the wave for more browser space.

Then simple use sync and pitch buttons to fine tune, it's called DJing!

That's not a bug - that's lack of DJ skills from the user!

Seriously, don't rely on something to do the work for you, learn to do it yourself.

Instead of bashing the user you can always teach him what's going wrong with his tools:
1) The track has not a constant tempo. That's common for older tracks where a real person (drummer) was responsible to keep the tempo
2) The track has constant tempo but it has tempo variations made on purpose.
3) The track has constant tempo but it's phase is not detected 100% accurate. You can fix the phase by the "EDIT BPM" window
4) The BPM has not been detected correctly. Most of the times all DJ softwares will detect the BPM correctly. However there are times that the BPM analyzing engine will not detect the correct tempo. Besides the obvious half/double tempo there are cases especially with tracks that their timing signature is not 4/4 (like 9/8 for instance) where the BPM engine detects a wrong tempo.

If all of the aboves are checked and you are sure that your track is 100% perfect (Constant Tempo without variations, correct BPM detected and right phase detected) then your tools (sync, smart loop, smart play, smart cue e.t.c) will work perfectly.
Otherwise it's not the tools that don't work. It's the track that has "issues".

If the track has issues then as all the other users said you will have to use your ears to fine tune and fine adjust your mix. You will have to "ride" the tempo and constantly keep fine-tuning until your mix is over.

Very good PD,

But he needs to get into the spirit of DJing and be able to get into mode on demand, all this admin in advance of your gigs is like doing homework.

They just need to get rid of SYNC feature altogether in ALL DJ software. It is my dream and wish that VDJ 8 will not have this feature.

Dreams are free, so you can dream whatever you want!!!

But I don't believe that what you're dreaming of is going to ever happen. Not for VDJ8 but for all Dj software titles.

And please, don't take me wrong, but stop being a hatter... You don't like the "SYNC" button/feature. Ok. Don't use it.
Personally I don't like scratching! But I don't wish/dream VDJ8 (or any software) to come out without "Vinyl Mode" ;)

PS: I learn to Dj with turntables and I love the feel of the vinyl. I just don't like to scratch!

amazing how much of this could be solved by reading the manual and then realizing that this software is not going to do it all for you.
use the manual to tweak your settings and you can solve quite a few beat drift issues. make sure your latency settings are optimal and computer specs meet requirements. make sure you can actually mix the songs and that they dont have change ups in tempo..

and last but not least - i know myself and a lot of others are getting sick and tired of the SYNC button argument just as much as everyone is sick and tired of the "you're not a real dj unless you use __________"

whatever.

everything in this software - or ANY software AND turntable/reel to reel/cassette/etc. is just another tool to help you get the job done. do i use SYNC at work? OF COURSE I DO! not for every song but, i have too much to do and a thousand people to watch and not enough time to mix like i would if i was sitting at home or if i was playing in a club with a different format that would allow that kind of time. top all that off with an "open booth / people friendly" policy handed down by management.

anyone who wants to sit there and critique my use of something that is A COMPLETELY OPTIONAL PART OF THE SOFTWARE THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO USE THEMSELVES is more than welcome to spend a weekend in my booth observing.

sorry. didnt mean to go off on a rant there.

Don't be sorry Wild, its good for the soul. Plus its not good to keep things locked in........

Huey

Bottom line, it doesn't matter what you use, if you got talent, it won't matter to the people doin' the shaking & the paying on the dance floor, while inspector gadget does the (Dem Ah Watch Meh) on you.....don't even give it a thought...

If you ask Phantom nicely, he may build you a skin with the SYNC button missing for Christmas :)

im new here in fact my first post. iv'e been djing since mid 80s in chicago. sync now is useful if you want to be able to do more interesting things with filters.

time to come clean LOL... I use "match_bpm" quite a bit now, it take the hassle out of mixing and does make it incredibly easy to keep the energy of your mix high, as you will never miss your mix in point. matching only the bpm's mean you don't need to change your beatgrid's as you can match the track positions manually, I play primarily broken beats not 4/4 so the cbg is all over the place.
