Topic: Ortofon concorde pro s & timecode vynils

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi everybody!
I bought 2 cartridges Ortofon Concorde pro S and I want to use them with VDJ old vynils (2008), do you think I made the wrong Choose?
I mean, I read on the net the for the timecode you must have a cartridge with a very high output and the Concorde pro s have 5.0 output signal. What do you think about that? I spent 120 Euros so I'm a bit worried about that....
Thank you very much

I believe that the Shure M44-7's have the highest output.

Ortfons are good depending on which model you buy. Back then when it was mixing straight vinyl, any ortofon was good. When it comes to time codes, They all have a Different MV output. This is why the new needles that get introduced have a Higher MV. The old Ortofon will work but, you will have some timecode signal problems. Needles with higher MV give getter timecode readings with less adjustments. The needles with a lower MV will give trouble with some wear and thats why you have to make adjustmenst in the time code settings. MV is the Output volume that the needle produces

Calientes Recomendations

Ortfon Concord Scratch (7MV)
OM Scratch (7MV)
Concord Electro (7.5MV)
Concord Night Club Mk2 (8MV)
Digitrack (8MV)

Shure m44-7 (9.5 MV)

Ortfon Serato concord s-120 (10MV)
Ortfon Q-Bert (11 MV)

The Best vinyl for vitual dj is the (Numark Vinyls) and the settings at Virtual DJ old engine 4

Does Caliente or beatbreaker know the answer for my question:

If I buy different stylus for my concorde pro s, will that improve it or does it have any effect on the mV output?

Thanks

I never tried it so i wouldnt know. I was looking at the specs of just the needles and you only see the tracking info and specs of the frequency range. It looks like the output is from the Cartridge.

Yea I suppose it's like that the output comes from the cartridge,
but I'm just curious because the needles have pretty big differences in the prices.

Of course the cheaper ones sell more and so on,
but I wan't to be 100% sure before buying new needles/cartridges.

So if anyone has 100% sure info, I would appreciate it!

Thanks

Id just go with the Shure's, 150 bucks mounted on TECHNIC headshells. Their loud easy on the vinyl, if weighted correctly.

The thing is that I already have concorde pros which needs a new needles so it would be much easier and cheaper to buy only new needles and if possible to upgrade them as well.

Well I know with some ortofons you can swap needles with the headshells but I think with those their more square so you may or may not be able to. Google is your friend, try reading up, http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews_carts.php

Good luck

It seems like that even the guys at skratchworx doesn't no the answer for my quesion..

It says like this in the Interchangeability section of the s120 review

"One big question that has always followed Ortofon carts has been the interchangeability of the needles. Obviously some are more expensive than others, but with the S-120s, there has never been a better time to save cash and squeeze an asymmetric stylus into your old el cheapo OM Pro S."

"So it seems that you may well be able to simply drop cash for the S-120 styli to get the stability you want, but I nor Ortofom make no guarantees as to they'll give the audio quality you like. My advice is to stick with matched pairs - it's an expensive experiment to find out it doesn't work."

Fuck this! I really don't no what do now!!

I guess I'll just buy the shures as a panic decision...

Anyway thanks for the help guys!

Any concord cart will fit on any other concord.

get the concord needle that you like and it will fit on the concord body.

The needle is the important part so upgrading the needle will upgrade your sound.

Hope this helps ya out.

Finally found the aswer!!

It says like this in the ortofons DJ site:

"Physically, each series of stylus will fit on alternate cartridge bodies. However, these combinations are not supported by Ortofon, as they have not been tested. Each cartridge series is designed with a synergistic combination in mind - that is, each stylus is made to compliment the magnet and coil configuration of each cartridge body. For instance, using a DigiTrack stylus with a Scratch body will not provide the full benefit of either product, and might even provide undesired results, including (but not limited to) differences in output, unbalanced sound reproduction, etc." http://www.ortofon-dj.com/en/faq

So changing the needle doesn't affect the ouput, but it makes the sound better in other ways.

Thanks for DJ City, I think I'll try some other needle than the original, maybe even the s120. Hope it works!

Do you think that buyng the ortofon digitrack om will be a good deal? They say these are the best for time code signal ond obviously better than mine ortofon concorde pro s...

Thanks!!
