Hello forum, I'm just starting to mess around with Virtual DJ 7 and am interested in getting an external mixer. I am looking at the Numark Mixtrack Pro... I'm able to get it in Australia for around the $400 mark. I'm wondering what this deck is capable of? Will I be able to run an amp and party speakers off it, even though its USB powered? I will only be using it privately for myself and mates partys. I don't want to go too extreme with expensive gear, so I dont want to spend over $400 on a deck. Is this deck a good option for me? And is it capable of doing everything I'll want it to do? I assume i can use headphones for cueing purposes, while the main deck runs on the main speakers?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It will work fine - has all the capabilities you need and works well with VDJ. The only confusing thing about the mixtrack is that there are 2 RCA outputs but you can't use them both to send signals to seperate amps. The 2nd audio out is really only available for headphones or booth monitors . So you just take the USB out to the mixtrack - RCA 1 output to your amp and the headphones in the headphone jack. Make sure you have the audio setup properly per the instructions in the VDJ config and all will be well. The sound you will get from the mixtracks soundcard will be far superior to using your laptops headphone output.
Hopefully you can get the mixtrack with VDJ LE instead of traktor. LE should get you started and will do everything you really need with the Mixtrack.

Okay thanks. Thats good to know about the second RCA output. So the Mixtrack pro will have no problems running any amp? Or should I get a specific amp for the controller?

I love my mixtrack pro. It's a great piece of gear for a beginner. I am gonna keep it until I can get me a controller with motorized tables. And like the other guys said u can use any amp with your speakers.

Thanks Who ate Finn, I guess I wasn't being very clear with what I was on about haha. But you seem to have somehow answered it for me anyway. Now that I know I can cue with headphones, will my 3.5mm headphones fit strait in? Or will I need a 1/4 adaptor? I purchased the Mixtrack Pro today, so hopefully it wont take too long to get here. Pretty excited to start playing with music!

I am thrilled with my purchase. I bedroom DJ to take breaks from studying, play parties on the weekend, and local bars a couple of times. Its fantastic to learn on and has a lot of capabilities.
I recently upgraded to the pro version of VDJ and it opened up alot of new features that I can take advantage of on my mixtrack pro.
Heres a really great review of the product, one that influenced my decision to purchase it.
