Topic: Please improve Equalizer (default frequency like torq, traktor or serato) - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I am a happy user of virtual dj as I use it with my ns7 to mix and scratch audio and video... The main issue I have with the software atm is the default eq frequencies. I would like the frequencies to be changed to the same as torq, traktor or serato.. especially the bass frequecy range, too much of the mid is taken out or added when the knob is turned. I know many people may well be satified with the current settiings, but I would love to see an improvement/adjustment made in this department.

I have stated in previous posts that vdj is currently the best dj software available on the market and I stand by that.. I have used serato, torq and traktor and I play on very big sound systems outdoor and indoor, the sound quality is not noticeably different between the softwares so it is the features and stability that count thus imo vdj tops the competition... however there is still room for improvement...

Please let me know if anything can be done about this issue or if there is currently a way to change the settings in the software...Thanks in advance

This should probably be moved to the wishes forum but ya I agree. That mid can do damage to a set if your not careful.

I support this message! +1

The EQ can cause a bit of a train wreck at times.

+1 ... have to jump on this one as a NS7 user. I do enjoy the punch I get with the bass, but maybe if this issues addressed now it will be improved upon by the release of the NS6!
Thanks Team~

I'm using a vst at present so there are options out there.

I'm using an external mixer, but that doesn't solve the problem, it's just a workaround. Using a plugin isn't like using the dedicated internal mixer, especially if you use other effects and don't want to fall into confusion...

I'm using a Denon MC-6000 in midi and PC mix mode. I agree that when using the VirtualDJ mixer the increases and decreases in the midrange and bass are far too huge even with the smallest adjustments on the knobs!

That's exactly the reason I use the MC6000 in external mode and use the hardware mixer for any adjustments. As Scott says above you can use a VST plugin if you need more than the basic VDJ adjustments.

The VDJ EQ is okay for small tweaks but by no means perfect. The 10 band EQ for each channel in BPM Studio was so much better!

I'm guessing most DJ's run through a mixer with it's own EQ so the VDJ EQ is really there for subtle adjustment should you need it.

I have external eqs crossover preamp etc on my system but I do not want to use an external dj mixer with my ns7... I just want to control the eq on each deck in the software especially when in transitition between tracks .....I dont like turning the bass knob and taking out most of the low mid as well.. Please consider this vdj team.... keep up the great work!

Hi Sbdj, if you don't mind could you tell me which vst you use for eq...? Thanks in advance..

Got to agree. It's annoying because without decent EQs it's not worth investing in a midi controller, so you have to stick to a separate mixer.

And I've been thinking about getting the denon mc6000 but since VDJ is without good EQs and proper UV meters, you would have to use it in external mix mode and so it's then only a 2 channel controller rather than 4!

+ 1 on a new 4 band EQ, it's a must now the range of 100% midi controllers are in the pro league, the software needs to be too.

ToneControl plugin is exactly what vdj needs as the default eq! I mapped the eq knobs on my xponent and ns7 to the effect slider 1, 2 and 3 for bass, mid and treble respectively. It works great and solves my problem absolutely! The only drawback is that it will be a bit tricky to use other effects at the same time but that is not a problem for me as I hardly use the effects anyway. Thanks guys for providing the solution! Vdj forum is the best in the dj software world!

TexZK, you always make great plug-ins but Mac users usually have to wait too long to get the MAc versions.

The problem is that I don't own a Mac and I don't plan to, since I don't need it... so, I can't compile plugins for Mac, and have to rely on other people's will...

Anyway, ToneControl is outdated and was only an experiment, and doesn't sound well! I wouldn't use it for professional gigs... I might rewrite it with my latest coding stuff in the future, but as always I think that such a feature should be native. As you can feel, a plugin EQ isn't good if you want to apply other effects...

+1 on this as well. Im using the DNMC6000 as well. A very small turn of the knob results in a sharp change in frequency. Would be nice if it was more gradual.

Thank you for your response. I hope Virtual Dj staffs are reading this and actually implement this internally soon in their next firmware update.

The concept of your plugin is spot on bro. I haven't tried it on a big sound system yet but it sounds good on my 15" peavey monitors. The quality, even though you say it is not good, is 100 times better than that of the native eq in vdj! The presets and options that you have in your ToneControl plugin is exactly what I had in mind when I made the initial post. This should be a native feature in the software however if you can do a higher quality new version of the plugin it would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work bro!

Hey SBDJ,

What is the name of the VST you are using? The link you provided shows a pile of plug-ins.

Thanx in advance,
AC

I'm using the DJEQ_3 one.

And where would I install that file? In sound effects folder?

EDIT: Got it sorted. Was hoping I could map it to the current EQ knobs, but it looks like it is an effect parameter.
