Topic: Can't mix with my iPod on iDJ3

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have a iDJ3 deck with iPod classic 120gb on a PC computer with Windows 7. Here's the thing, I can hear drag songs and mix the songs that are in my computer. I can even hear the iPod when I turn up the iPod volume from the deck BUT, I can't drag songs from the iPod, I can't mix them. I don't even see my iPod on the left panel of the Virtual DJ on my computer screen. The songs aren't bought on iTunes, it's CDs that I added in my iPod. Can you help me with this? How can I use my iPod with iDJ3?
Thanks a lot! MissEighties

Sorry, VirtualDJ for IDJ3 does not support playing music directly from the iPod. The IDJ3 console allows simple song playback and recording directly from the iPod only (The sound is sent straight out through the outputs of IDJ3) - The iPod section is simply a basic docking station with a volume control.

Any music that you wish to play in VirtualDJ must ideally be on your computer's own hard disk.

NOTE: If you put your iPod into disk mode http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363 then you may be able to access the songs on it via the VirtualDJ browser (Via Computer -> Appropriate disk drive letter.) However, iPod uses a proprietary filing system, so the songs may not show up as the correct names unless they are in either MP3 or MP4 format and have the correct tags set (Artist, Title, etc.)

So you the fact that every review of the idj3 says you can record directly TO your ipod from the idj3, your saying that is incorrect? If you can record to the ipod, please advise how.

Thanks,

to record,
when the ipod is docked go to the main menu on the ipod itself, there you will see voice memos, select this choose your quality and press record, make sure to test the master volume on the idj so that its not to loud in the recording as i am not sure if the ipod has a set input level or not, this works perfectly to record, i am using it as i type this....the recording function of the ipod has nothing to do with vdj so you wont see anything on the pc screen in vdj about the recording, to stop the recording press menu on the ipod then select stop and save...
