Topic: VDJ3 & Hercules with an external Mixer?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi Guys - I request your input here.

I bought the hercules console and it is a little beauty, for the price. I also bought VDJ3 rather than use the buddled version.

I'm running it in 'DJ' mode, just using the two outputs to an external mixer.

I need the external mixer for the 3 mics (I also do Karaoke)

I notice I can run the hercules in ASIO mode. I assume I can then run two stereo outputs to the external mixer?

My questions are - what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this ?

I assume I will get lower latency in ASIO mode?

Does DJ mode still mean its using asio low latency ?

Just to note my PC setup is

Celeron 2400 running XP purely for audio (disabled network/internet, disabled unused services)
2 gigs of DDR PC3200 400mhz (crucial)
120gig main ide drive (7200rpm ata100)
400gig s-ata media drive (ata155)
nvida ge-force 4 440mmx
hercules dj console
external beringher mixer

I do video, effects, karaoke and DJ all from VDJ3 - It does everything I want.
I'm taking it on my first gig this weekend. bye bye cd-decks !

Yes... you can run 2x stereo out with the hercules to an external mixer :)
(only works in the full version of VDJ by the way)

And - asio would in theory be better. But for karaoke and regular dj use, the windows directx drivers are really fast and good, so using Hercules in standard mode works fine :)
(asio is more usefull when using timecode cds/vinyls)
But as said, lower latency in asio - but might not notice that much difference with the Hercules, as it works fine in regular mode :)

DJ mode is a setup for the hercules console - so that it will give 2x stereo out, headphone out in front, and even mic in (mic works better on external mixer, so more recommended for you, when doing karaoke)

And really powerful pc ;) guess you are gonna do fine, with video and karaoke :) Happy mixing... and welcome here at VDJ as full member
