Greetings,
I just got 2 Black VCI-100 units and have a strange problem. When in non-vinyl mode (button push) the touch wheel doesn't nudge very well.
I hook up my older Silver VCI-100 and all is good. Pitch bending works great. Hook up the Black ones and very little pitch bend.
All other knob and slider functions work on the Black ones as the do on my Silver one. It's just pitch bend thats not working right.
Put it into vinyl mode (button push) and all work properly. The problem seems to be only in non-vinyl mode.
I'm still pretty intimidated with VDJ Script and was wondering what parameters to focus on in order to correct the problem. It might also be something I am overlooking, but I'm not sure.
Please, what parameter do I use for touch wheel, non-vinyl mode, pitch bend or nudge ? Thanks !
Jim

I have a black VCI-100 but don't use the jog wheels for pitch bending. I will check out this function on mine (in non vinyl mode) and advise accordingly.

Ohhhh... I have a problem and need some expert help. I'm in deep deep do do.
I interchange the old Silver VCI-100 and the new Black VCI-100 and the touch pads work differently. The Silver one has proper function and will increase or decrease pitch like a turntable with the "Vinyl mode" button OFF. Faster you spin... the pitch increments UP. Slower the spin... speed increments down.
The Mapper when put in LEARN MODE comes up with 'SEEK' and 'pitch_mode' with both Silver and Black VCIs. Seems like the Black one is ignoring the 'pitch_mode' command. I do seem to detect a slight hint of speed change, but that could be my imagination.
Put the Silver one on line with "Vinyl mode" button off and the touch pad works great. Black one in the same button mode... and it doesn't change pitch.
I can program the glass ring to do pitch, but I would like to use my finger on the pad for ease of beatmixing.
My silver one is an early model bought at the Atlantic City show when they first came out. It is non-modded. I'm sure these new black ones are a different firmware version, or has the original "modded" firmware.
I'm trying to get a verb that works right, but this touch platter is coming up as 'SEEK' not SEEK + or SEEK - so I'm not sure how to build a string that will work to slow down spinning to the left and speed up when spun to the right.
And I don't have a clue why the Silver one is working correctly under the 'SEEK' verb and still does a plus or minus by spinning front or back.
This is a tough one. I'm stumped right now.

JimmyL

Thanks SuperAceMan for checking. I'll bet we have the same results.
Hmmmm...seems I have no way to control which VCI controls 1,2 and 3,4. The only thing I can do is swap USB ports if they are backwards. Not really a problem. But an override switch would be nice. I'll look at some verbs for that.
What I need is a verb that will use SEEK and can sense a forward spin and backward spin. Then do a pitch_bend plus or minus 30% (works ok with that number). That number works well with the glass ring for speed control.
These verbs are quite intimidating. Would it be possible for someone to re-index them in alphabetical order ??? Please ???

Wow Jimmy, you're absolutely correct. It acts identical to what you were saying in your first post. It's likely the firmware version that is causing this but it should be easily mapped. I'll try some different mapping with it and see if I can figure this out because now it's bothering me. lol
I currently have mine mapped to control all 4 decks from a single controller using the "key" buttons to change decks.

Super,
Thanks for checking. I figured we'd have the same results since both of my black ones exhibit the same issue.
For now I'll try mixing with the glass ring, but I want to get the touch pad to work right.
Cool that you got the 4 decks to work on 2 platters. My only issue with that is you have to map the bass, mid, & hi controls... and the gain and key controls also. Looks like a lot of work to me.
I might have to call Vestax for help. Unless one of our gurus can come through with a suggestion.

djtechtool.com just made a firmware 1.4 version for these that helps with some of the bugs. It might be worth looking into.
This has me thinking, I'll be trying both in vinyl and non-vinyl modes this evening and will advise on findings. I'm not 100% sure that my glass platters function as intended in non-vinyl.

And just when I buy these 2 new units.... Vestax comes out with the VCI-100 MKII. Geeze. Oh well, my setup will look cool having 4 platters. The MK-II looks pretty nice. Built in sound interface, adjustable torque setting for platters, joystick for music query, and switches to handle 4 software decks.
SuperAce thanks I'll look into the firmware upgrade. And I'll be hard at work tonight for a solution.

Okay, so I've tried different mappings with no success, but I have an idea!
Plug in your silver VCI-100 and make sure it functions as desired. Go to CONFIG, then go to MAPPERS. Click on KEY-LEARN then hit the portion of the jog wheel that you use to bend the pitch, etc. In the ACTION LEARN field, the current action will be displayed: write it down exactly as it is shown. Continue using this system until all of the desired actions on your silver model are recorded.
Now the fun part!
Plug in the black units, go to config/mappers as you did when you were looking for VDJ script with your silver unit and type in the actions that you wrote down for each button/jog wheel. And don't forget to save your work.
It's all I can think of, hope it helps.

SuperAceMan... I got it figured out.
The touch wheel actually does work. Spinning it makes minute changes in pitch. It is like a fine tuning. You can see it by overlapping two songs and observing the beat grid while spinning the wheel. The wheel will indeed slow the pitch down or speed it up.
I will guess the old VCI has less rotational resolution then the new wheels. Like how many samples per 1 rotation. I bet the Black ones have a finer resolution.
That firmware upgrade you mentioned boasts to increase the sample rate 4X. That could be a bad thing because it seems good as it is. I still might pop for the upgrade to see what happens.
I ended up programming the glass ring to do a pitch_bend + and - @ 50% with a ramp speed of 500ms. The statement would be:
Key: PITCHBEND+ Action: pitch_bend +50% 500ms
&
Key: PITCHBEND- Action: pitch_bend -50% 500ms
Now I have two options. In non-vinyl mode I can speed up or slow down at two rates. The touch pad with fine tuning, and the glass ring for faster speed change to the + or - .
I can live with this. It will take some testing and practice to re-learn my mixing techniques. But I like the 2 options.
I will probably also use the ring in vinyl mode. But if I touch the pad it will screw up the mix and I'll have to start the sync all over again. Very dangerous if you're in a hurry.
Time to start practicing. Let me know how you make out.

Jim
