I currently use mpeg 2 file format and convert all my videos to mpeg 2 because thats what all my older files are. Is there a huge difference between the 2? Do I lose any quality from goin from mpeg2 to mp4?
The other reason I use mpeg 2 is my karaoke software that I use needs seperate codecs to play mp4.
Thanks

What are you converting from? If DVD, then they are already MPEG2 and you are better off staying MPEG2; you will lose quality going from MPEG2 to MPEG4. If from raw video, then you can get benefits in compression (smaller files) and quality with MPEG4.
If your are converting from MPEG4 to MPEG2, then you are losing quality as well, and also increasing file size most likely.
If you are using a separate karaoke s/w that requires MPEG2, then you should try VDJ for karaoke instead ;)

I have to say that mp4 is better for me however I'm sure that it's because my card isn't powerful enough, anyway can't tell the difference.

If you not strapped for space I would leave them as mp2s, VDJ plays both for me without any issues
All my new files are MP4s I have some older still in VOB Format.
