Topic: Video Preview 1 or 2 - Choppy or Slows when previewing

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I know this was brought up once before and I will validate my theory tonight.

Problem:
If you watch the Preview 1+2, which is Master output everything runs fine.
Then I want to cue either 1 or 2, so I click on the correct video deck button and start playing
the video, the performance of the system seems to degrade and the video in the preview slows or becomes choppy.

OK, so the theory!
When building my latest skin, I started to wonder if when I click on Preview 1 or 2, does the 1+2 Video Panel's visible attribute go to 'no'? If not, then I thought in theory you are possibly running the master and the selected Preview panel at the same time?

So Testing my theory:
So, I am going to cut out the Preview 1+2 Video Panel - Master and only use Video Panels for Channels 1 and 2 - NO MASTER PANEL. This hopefully will test my theory, because if I select 1+2, it is just a blank graphic location with no Video_Panel associated with it.

Will let you all know my results...

@Cyderhouse - I think I have the skin the way I want it. I'll shoot it to you tomorrow after
I test it tonight.

cstoll

CStoll,

Sounds great :)

I was thinking along the same lines as you on the output problem it would be an intresting theory if you could have 2 a+b and somehow trick it to think it was using both.

Well with all theories, some are proven false.

I modified a skin to only have either Preview 1 or 2 and not a Master.
The result was the same as if the master existed.
Slow or choppy video if trying to what just one deck.

oh well, it was a good theory. But, just shows that the issue is not skin related and refinements in the application need to be made - which I am sure they will.

Just so you know, I am mixing (beat mixing) AVI files built with the 3ivX Codec, if anyone is curious.

Great Reply. cstoll..! I think if you can make a skin that
only uses 1 video output [1 stream] Means Disabling the
preview entirely would be great. That's an option of coarse
until the video issues are rectified. This is a cut-off switch
that requires RE-ACTIVATING the Preview rather than it streams
no matter what. Out... Thanks

This issue depends on the video driver you are using.

With an ATI driver, there are no problems and everything works just fine.
However, it seems that nvidia drivers do have a problem when using both GDI and D3D at the same time.

With the actual version the only way to prevent this is either:
- use an ATI card (ati drivers have other problems still, like when using sonique plugins in fullscreen)
- don't use the preview "1" or "2" video window, only "1+2"
- use a skin without much GDI work (ie without many things moving like the discs spinning etc)

We are working to find a way to pass over nvidia internal routines for this, and write better routines.

Yes, Dev Team on the prowl!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I deeply appreciate the response and explanation, and just proves that your efforts are close at hand on this issue. I will add that with the system I have built if I was using MPEG-1 files I might not have as much problems. But the video files I am playing are 3ivX DivX Codec files which I am sure adds to the equation alittle bit.

However, thanks again for the feedback and I look forward to v3.1!!!

Well That Explains why my ATI Graphics on the Laptop is
a bit better. Also I find that some of the Elecard Mpeg2
DemultiPlexers Filters are S###. You need these to seperate
the audio from the H264 AVC video stream. Sucks because only
the old Moonlight MPEG2-DemultiPlexer works worth a shite. MixMeister
6.1.3 [all versions!] sucks even worse at rendering smooth video. In Fact looses
sync right away with audio & video when you drag a song into the Playlist.
So a plus for VDJ 3.0. I think that theres a Transport Stream Glitch somewhere.
Even worse no known Filter will connect a H264 AVC in a .Mpg Container. I've
spent days researching this problem; so VDJ is not really the problem at all; just
some. I need a beer now. Later all.....
