My first thought is, there is something with your Notebook hardware or OS.
Maybe your Notebook can't handle the traffic?!
Because something brake the communication between VDJ and the Database?

All track are already scanned and you have done the three steps in the Config -> browser area?

Is the 500GB disk an external drive?

i seem to have this problem too, i can make the tune im playing drop out for a second or two by either searching or loading.

why does it make a difference if its on an external hdd?

A external HD can Switch into the Eco mode.
Of you now try to load a track from your sleeping HD, it looks like VDJ goes into a freeze.
Music is still playing!
After the HD is back on Life, you can see also VDJ came back!
On Most HD, is this Eco feature inside the Firmware, so no chance to adjust something!
It is also different, from HD to HD, when the Eco mode appears!

is that relevant for an external hdd that didnt start life as one? eg an old hard drive from a knackered chassis running in a usb enclosure?

my 500gb drive is not external
i found that another friend of mine is have the same problem
and i found that when i open my computer then i open vitual dj (by the way its the only program that opened)
then i close the virtual dj than i open it again and do the same 3 times and its better
but its still not perfect...
so if you have another ideas pleas tell me

what version of VD 6.x.x are you using?

the freezing problem seems to be with Windows7. I used VDJ on XP and i had no freezing problems. When I changed to Windows 7 i noticed that VDJ 6 started to freeze when i searched for songs. I did some troubleshooting and after some time i figured out that it only froze when i had the date sorted in VDJ. If i sorted the date and i tried to search for a song then it took almost 30seconds to unfreeze between typing a search. If I changed the sort order to say Artist or Songname then it stopped freezing! The problem is that I like to use the date sort to see my latest songs, although this is also flawed as for some silly reason VDJ sorts on the Date Modified instead of DATE CREATED!!!

Please fix these annoying issues!

LOVE VDJ!

I have the same problem with freezing... for me its a Windows7 problem when i change the the date sort order in vdj. If i sort by anything else and I search it doesnt freeze, only on date sort order!

where is the date sort found in vdj

Look at the picture..................

and you should really register your software so you can enjoy all VDJ has to offer.

I definately experience a very similar problem. My set up is VERY simple:

An XP Sony Vaio with a dual core processor & 4 gigs of ram.
Toshiba 320 gig external USB Hdd
A Hercules RMX....
Virtual DJ 6.1

The virtual DJ software will often lag when typing a search into the search bar and will sometimes freeze up completely which stops all sound. I really am starting to lean towards the idea that virtual DJ doesn't like accessing files from external hard drives. I am installing a faster, larger internal drive in hopes of resolving this issue as it really sucks.

And of course, VDJ 6 is usually the only software I am running while at work. Hope this feedback helps somebody out there with similar problems.
