Topic: BPMs Are Correct - But Virtual DJ Doesn't Accurately Sync

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have been testing Virtual DJ, and hoping to switch over from the old PCDJ Red. The one thing that I have found, is that Virtual DJ only seems to be able to sync songs accurately about 50% of the time. One would almost think that Virtual DJ hasn't calculated the BPMs correctly, but it does in most cases. The problem is, I am finding that once I have both players at identical BPMs, pressing the sync button to actually snyc them up only works properly about half the time. The other half of the time, the beats are out of wack. Attempting to use the sync button to manually get the wave forms in sync doesn't work - and it almost seems as if the song is actually not at the identical BPM. I can get them matched up for a couple of beats, and then they drift apart.

Does anyone have similar issues?

Well I absolutely hate to sould like these guys trying to cut the heads off of NLU's.

but I remember when I had a cracked version of this years ago. I had a good amount of issues up to and including the record/track skipping. I mean, this isn't vinyl!!

but I haven't had any issues with the sync function, in the few weeks that I had purchased this software. I mean, I can let tracks go for minutes without adjusting pitch sometimes.

Mind you, I'm a house music fan, and my tracks are the easiest to deal with. But I haven't had any issues.

Like stated he's testing VDJ so he's probably using the trial-version. And trialversion-users can't register.
Some songs do have these problems. I found out tonigh that some old school Rock&Roll-songs are hard to sync. Try The Baseballs or something like that.

If your BPM is right, click on the field in the deck where the BPM is displayed. A small menu opens, where you can use the Phase-section to manually sync the BPM's. With -1/4 and +1/4 it shifts 1 beat down or up. If the squares in the waveform are not on the beat you can use the slider to shift it to the proper position.

Hope this helps.
Martin.

I\'m gonna assume your only using a laptop, NO turntables, no CDJ\'s?? Anyways if you right-click on the BPM (depending on what skin your using) a box will pop-up.

Click on the tab that says "Edit Grid". Those little boxes is what VDJ lines up when you press sync (cheater, lol) but you would have to go through and edit all the tracks that dont line up, but after you did that you shouldnt have any problem. I'm pretty sure thats how it works so just try it and let us know if that worked for you.

Hope I was some help

I have had this same problem since I had begun to use any version 6 and over. 5.2 till then the bmps matched perfectly 90% of the times. I am using HP win 7 32 bit 3 gig Ram.(Upgraded from Vista) It did it with Vista also and was hoping to solve it but not luck. I have been dealing with it but was hoping to find a solution.

When I sink the beats they are not usually mached(usually off by 1.4 or 1/2. When I do match the beats they drift constantly.

Any info.

I remember having this issue when using mp3s encoded in vbr instead of cbr.

Someone explain this one...

I was playing the video for California Gurls by Perry and trying to mix the mp3 of the same song with it and they would not match.

The blocks were off and when synced they would drift off. These are the same songs...What is the deal. there has got to be a fix for this.

I also have this issue. I remember older versions working a lot better.

There is one more bug-a-boo that is a bit of an annoyance. When manually beat matching deck1 to deck2, and I get the songs to align together just fine, I hit SYNC. Quite often the program has a mind of it's own and re-adjusts my sync... making it incorrect.

I would like to see the SYNC button take my manual beat match and "phase-lock-loop" the 2 decks using my matchup as the beginning reference. If there is any drift the program should correct deck1 or deck2 to the other.

The point is I don't want the program to re-adjust. I want it to trust me that my beat match is accurate, and then lock the decks.

Perhaps some improvement can be done in this area. I would love better hands free mixing. Then I can spend more time playing with the DMX stuff. :)

Map a button and then try these,

sync : synchronize the song with the other deck.
sync_nocbg : synchronize the song with the other deck, using local beat information instead of the global beatgrid.

Maybe 1 will work for you.

@Jimmy, if you already have them synced up whats the point of hitting the sync button anyways?? Have you tried just engaging "Beatlock"??

Just a few of my thoughts
Huey

Beat,

Sorry, I was referring to "beatlock". I hit the "B" key when I have the mix aligned. Then the mixing deck will re-adjust itself incorrectly. It doesn't happen all the time. I would just like it to trust me and keep the decks matched as I have it set.

Right now with this skin I can beatlock by hitting the "*" button beside my SYNC button. And right now my keyboard "B" button is being ignored.

I'll figure it out. I'm going to bed. I'll check in later.

Thanks for your help.

Jim
