Topic: Multiple CD's to PC Transfer

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I want to transfer my CD collection (presently on a Pioneer PD-F 1009 300 CD Player) to my PC. I'lm using a CD->Mixer->Line-In to the PC set-up. The idea was to put the CD player in sequential 'Play' and transfer the CD's in batches (HD memory permitting) to my PC. I will then move them to my external HD. Unfortunately, VirtualDJ copied all as one huge file with no track brakes. I thought this software was supposed to do that. What am I doing wrong?

You expected the wrong things. Virtual DJ is a DJ software and not a cd ripping tool.

Why don't you use a Tool like CDEx for ripping it directely from CD-Rom drive to your harddisk ?
Also you could easily convert the songs on the fly to mp3.

It was my understanding that VirtualDJ had a 'Vinyl Rip' option that was supposed to work with CD's also. I really want to avoid having to load one CD at a time in the PC CD/ROM reader.

You are trying to do this "the old fashioned way" - like recording an LP to tape...

The contents of the CD is in a digital format. Software such as iTunes, Windows Media Player or MediaMonkey (just three examples) can extract the songs directly from the CD in a fraction of the time. Plus it would also automatically "tag" and name the files for you.

You can RIP a CD direct from your PC's CD-ROm drive in just a few minutes, so you could do 20-30 an hour.. Doing it your way you have to worry about recording levels, splitting the tracks somehow afterwards, tagging them and each disc woudl take at least an hour...

just put the CD into your computer and rip it to Mp3 192 or higher.. Thats it..

I think the previous posters covered it all. Try one CD using the rip method (putting a CD into your computer). Windows Media Player comes with your computer and does a decent job of ripping and tagging. From the time you put the CD into your computer until the time the music is tagged and ready to play will take you less than 5 minutes per CD (probably wayyyyy less). Going the analog route, will take you an hour just to record 1 CD. Then you will need to use music editing software to split the songs and name the files. After that you will need to use different software to embed the name of the song and artist into the MP3 file.

You can also check the manual for your multi-CD player. Some of them will allow you to connect to a PC and it will be recognized as an external CD drive. If your player does that, it will save you from unloading it.

Starting ripping all CD's using ITunes into my PC. Slow, but sure process so far. Now, when I bring up 'My Music' in VirtualDJ, the songs are listed by 'Name' first. I would like to arrange for the 'Album' to appear first in the Virtual DJ drop down window pane in the left side of the screen. Any suggestions?

I want to thank all of you for getting me over the first hurdle of importing the cd's into the pc.

In the title bar within the browser; right click on that.
Another window will pop up showing the order. On the bottom
where it says "order", click that. Now you can change it the way you want to.
