Topic: Configuring VDJ to record video at a higher resolution than 320x240

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Is there anyway to configure VDJ to record video at a higher resolution than 320x240? I don't see any options to change ANY of the record settings. Not even for audio although I guess 192kb isn't "too bad"

Thanks

It depends of the video codec used. Some limits the video size to 320x240 but with other ones you have an higher size.

Can you recommend one?

I think the recording resolution is related to VDJ's output resolution (at least thats how it works in the two codecs I have tried and got working).

the 320X240 is the "window output" resolution that VDJ defaults with..

you have two choices.
1.) try to resize the output window.. (which is almost impossible to be exact)
2.) or go fullscreen and set your second screen to the smallest resolution you can get.

P.S.

this is the way i got things to work.. (not an expert but it seems ok)..

I downloaded and installed the XVID codec..
then used the VDJ registry tool to select the codec, and configure the encoder.. (using home profile, real time speed)
I then set my second screen up as 640X480 size (Xvid will work with most sizes, I choose this size as a nice trade off of CPU usage VS file size VS quality)
When I record I make sure VDJ's TV output screen is set to fullsize. (IE: not a window)

When I'm done recording I then put my second screen back to its normal resolution.

Hippydog: Hey bro just tried your suggestion and it works... ALMOST :-)
The smallest res I can go on my 2nd screen is 800x600 I guess maybe by Video Card is "too good"?
I got the Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX. When I record at this res.. it works but tends to REALLY tax my CPU so the video doesn't run quite as smooth and likewise records the same way. I wish there was a way to custom set my res. Ideally I would like to record 640x360 but if I could get 640x480 I def wouldn't complain :-)

I have a 2nd computer and that's how I've always recorded in the past.. It's just a pain in the ass using a 2nd system.. ya know?

Any ideas how I can force my 2nd screen res to 640x480? I guess I'll check out what Nvidia has to say while I wait for other replies.

Thanks for the help!

Are you using Windows to resize the screen or the software that came with the video card?

With windows I can only go down to 800X600. (using the windows display properties settings)..
But my ATI video card came with something called "catalyst control" which is an advanced config utility for the video card..
using THAT I have a LOT more choices..

taking a quick google.. Nvidia's version of ATI's catalyst might be called PHYSX SYSTEM SOFTWARE..???
maybe try using that to set the second screen resolution.

dont have an nvidia card myself.. maybe someone else can help on that regard..
