Topic: MP3's Are On Hard Drive - But Can't Find Them In Search!

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am new to Virtual DJ. I have a problem with finding songs that are on the hard drive, but don't come up in the search........until I manaully go to the folder I KNOW the MP3 is contained in, and find it manually. Its as if Virtual DJ needs to "see" the song once before the search will pick it up. I thought - no problem - I will make sure that I go into each folder I have, and give Virtual DJ the chance to see the song.

The problem is - once I shut the computer down, and boot it back up, I am back to square one. This is very frustrating. Is there something that I am doing wrong, or a setting that I need to choose? It isn't that Virtual DJ doesn't "see" some of the songs in the library, but it seems very picky about what it does and doesn't see.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Paul

Right click on your hard drive and select "Add to Search DB" command.

Virtual DJ uses a database. When you search you are looking in that database.

Unless you've asked VDJ to scan your music folders, they will only be added when you first navigate to those folders.

If your files are under one main folder such as "C:\Music" then navigate to that folder, right-click on it and then select "Add to search DB". VDJ will then traverse your music folders and add the tracks to the database.

If you have more than one folder or location such as an external drive, then simply repeat the process. To scan an entire drive right-click on the driver letter itself.

Now, to help you further you now want VDJ to analyse all the tracks. VDJ will do this the first time a track is loaded. However you can save time and improve your searches (such a key, bpm, etc) if you pre-analyse.

This will obviously take time, so do this when you can leave the computer chugging away - like overnight!

Now right-click on your root folder/drives again and this time select "Scan for BPMs". VDJ will now analyse each track before you load it.

Repeat this process every time you add new music.

WOW! Thank you so much! I do have one additional question - is there a way to make the "time remaining" display any larger? It is pretty small for my old eyes!

Thanks!

will give you a hint though.if your going to move a song from folder to folder do it within vdj.if you do it outside vdj your location changes and will now be hidden from search.learned this the hard way lol

The time remaining is controlled by the skin. You have limited skins in the trial version. Treat yourself to pro and a whole library of alternate skins will be made available to you. Even the ability to design your own...
