Topic: What DELL Laptops work well with VDJ/CUE

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

After replacing my mb twice on my HP DV6000 due to the known nvidia/chip set issue i have decided to look into a different machine. I run video 99% of the time so i def need it to run video well. I also use a korg zero 4 mixer and need a fire wire plug for that. please if you have a Dell laptop list your model, basic specs ie: processor, video card, ram and let me know your thoughts on how it performs. Thanks i am looking to buy this ASAP so the faster the better ;)

Inspirion 1525 pentium duo core 2.0ghz ,ati card ,shoot got it last year new.. and vista even ! i record my mixes in video, its proven itself ,havent used the firewire though i might do so for a camara live feed...

i'm using inspiron 1721 amd dual core 1'9 ghx 4 gb ram dual hard drives got 2 500's in at mo works well been using over 2 years now with no problems i have now got windows 7 on it instead of vista and had 1 crash since october (thats using it 5 nights a week 4-5 hours a time) used to use a hp but it cooked the motherboard in 18 months of dj use

dell studio 15, intel core i5 ,4gb ddr3 1333mhz, ati 4570, 500gb 7200, win seven 64bits home premium
screen 15,6 hd
works excellent, im video dj too recomended 100%
by the way i had a hp pavilion dv9000 with the chipset nvidia issue too bad for hp

i'm kind of tossing it up between the studio 15 or 17 don't think you can upgrade the os on the 15 to 7 ultimate? are you guys running 7 pro or home?

i'm running home premium you dont need the extra baggage you get with ultimate, but i'm sure home basic works just as well

yeah im running ultimate now just wanted to make sure that vdj/cue ran ok on home or pro.

I just got two Dell Studio 1745 laptops and they run flawlessly. No problems with video or audio. I got one perfectly set and then I cloned the internal drives. Now, they are both exactly the same.

They also have a 2nd hard drive bay for adding another drive....

The ONLY issue is the weird screen resolution. There aren't too many skins that work well with it.

These are kick butt laptops and look beautiful!

i am going to upgrade to ultimate

much more bells and whistles and security features , if you know what to do with them.......?

otherwise i suppose they are baggage.....

after talking with dell customer support they recomend me getting a Vostro 3700 supposedly its built for "business" and not the consumer but everyone seems to have the studio. does any one run a vostro?

as for screen res i use the stock cue skin so i hope thats not an issue.

uhhhh ..... why only Dell ??

you seem to need a good video rig , so that would dictate a good video card and lots of RAM ......

some laptops have 4 gigs ram and much rarer 6 ........

desktops are out there with 8 gigs ram and under a $1000 .......and upgradeable to 16gigs ram ......

just get one with a good video card ( or switch out the default card for one of your choosing that is compatible with your system )

and Dell isn't the only starfish in the sea......

why dell you say 2 words for you "credit approved" LOL

i got a Vostro 3700 i5 2.53ghz with 6 gigs of ram an nvidia 330m with 1 gig dedicated. From what i googled this should be way more than i need. my current gig machine is a dv6000 with nvidia 8400M gs and it does just fine for mixing video but like i said after 2 mb replacements i'll keep it as a home or back up machine to the new one.
