Topic: Serato Scratch Live Timecode Vinyl DO have different slippery sides.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

This is relating to my other thread about not getting enough friction quick enough suitable for scratching.

I was playing around with my timecodes, and thought perhaps i should swap them over on decks as i always like to use the left for scratching (Well learning too) and thought perhaps it may change some thing.

I noticed the reflections on either side of the vinyl. It seemed that Side A has a shiny Finnish, and side B has a matt Finnish. (I always used to have side B facing up (Orange label))

I did a quick search on youtube of time code scratching and a vast majority of people have Side A facing up (So side B, the matt side is facing down)

I have noticed this my self that side B DOWN seems more 'stickier' then side A down. I always used to have side B facing up (orange lable) due to you can get 15 minutes play time instead of 10, like on side A.

I have some pictures to back me up. These are from my phone, so not the best. But its not until you try it you self you'll notice. Bother pictures taken seconds apart, same place and focusing the reflection on the same object.

I have noticed this even with the Numark Virtual Vinyl timecodes aswell, but with the right slipmats and as you learn to scratch with more control it wont matter after a while.

Would you know why this has been done?

Yea danny boy, that's a fact that side A unfortunately is lighter than B because B carries 15mins and A is something like 5. I do use A with custom made slipmats for scratching and it works great. Can't say that for B.

I also use side B for the 15min lenght. I find it better for scratching too. I never notice the slippery side, I will check next time...

I agree too, its also the same with the tracktor vinyls I have. Although tracktor vinyl is lighter and more flexible like a single, whereas serato vinyl is heavier and more rigid like a full album. I guess it just has do with both having a shorter side and longer side.
